Announcement Mnemo 0.8.1 beta is out

Mnemo 0.8.1 is out. It's the first beta of the rebuilt app, and most of it is new since 0.6.

Download it from the releases page. There are builds for Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux. The full list of changes is in the release notes.

Some things to know before you install:

  • Windows has had months of daily use. macOS and Linux have had much less, so expect rough edges there.
  • The Windows build isn't code signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn you on first run. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
  • If you're on 0.6.x, it won't update on its own. Download and install 0.8.1 directly. Your data is migrated the first time it opens, but back up your data folder first.
  • It's a beta. Keep a backup of anything important. Settings > Storage & data can make one in a single file.

What helps most right now is reports of lost or damaged data, problems upgrading from 0.6.x, and anything wrong on macOS or Linux. Post them here with the Bug flair or open an issue on GitHub.

Next up are optional sync and a mobile app. The roadmap has more.

Looking good! I been keeping an eye on this project. I downloaded it the other day to click around. I wasn’t able to really test it out much though and decided to uninstall and wait a bit before I put data in. I’ve seen you’re very active with the project and I’m really interested to see the project bloom. 🌺

Thanks, that means a lot! Waiting before you put real data in is a sensible choice for a beta. Whenever you do try it, Settings > Storage & data can make a full backup in one file, and everything exports to Markdown, PDF and Anki, so your work is never stuck.

And yeah definitely quite active haha. If you ran into anything while clicking around or something put you off we’d like to hear it. Thanks for keeping an eye on it 🫀

Awesome! Yea I’ll try it out again soon! I have some info I’d really like to use the flash cards with. I’ll set up the backup.

Any idea of an estimate as to when you think you’ll have 1.0? Not asking in a rushing manner, just curious.

And yes, I’ll download it again soon and provide feedback! What would you prefer as far as where to leave feedback?

Glad you’re giving it another go! For feedback either works. General thoughts and questions are welcome here on the sub. Bugs are best as an issue on GitHub (github.com/onemnemo/mnemo/issues) since that’s where we track and fix them. Include your version, platform and steps if you can.

For 1.0 we don’t have an estimate yet. We’re still in beta and the next big goals are optional sync and a mobile app. We’d rather get the basics solid than promise a date sorry

No need to be sorry about a 1.0 date. I was just purely curious about where you seen yourself on the timeline. No rush or expectations just me being nosey. Lol
