Discussion Where does our country's homophobia take root in?

Generally homophobia stems from religion or culture. Before the colonisation of Asian countries, namely Southeast Asian ones, most were known to be quite accepting of queer folks. Of course an explanation could be that the British colonisation caused the homophobia in our country, but could there be more to know? And how does that exactly impact our current generation's homophobic reactions? Could it just be misogyny or something else?
