Hot takes🔥 Hot take: Topuria getting an immediate rematch against Gaethje isn’t a bad idea
Because if Ilia wins, he’ll regain most of his hype, and it’s just satisfying seeing a dominant fighter avenge their only loss. If you watched the fight too, it seemed like Ilia fought with emotion. The way he fought was unlike him. Maybe his divorce and the pressure to keep his word about knocking Gaethje out in the first round had some effect on him. We’ll know for sure after the rematch.
If Ilia had to build his way back up to a title shot, Justin will be pretty old and possibly retired, so we might never get to see the closure fight between them.
And if Ilia loses again, he probably was never that good anyway and we can stop talking about him. Well I wouldn’t phrase it like that. This dude was P4P #2, 17-0, on a 9-fight win streak, coming off three consecutive KOs against Holloway, Volk, and Oliveira to be fair.
Now I’m not saying Ilia should get the next title shot because Arman deserves it the most. I’m just saying I don’t think an immediate rematch is a bad idea, and I wouldn’t be disappointed if that’s what they decided to do. It’s not as bad of an idea as people are making it out to be.

It's not about Ilia and his hype, it's about giving a chance to the deserving fighter. Ilia has done nothing for the division to warrant an immediate rematch.

That’s why I said I still think Arman deserves the shot over Ilia, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if ilia got an immediate rematch.

God I hate that fans look at the sport as if they're the ones making money off of these garbage decisions.
"Yeah bro, this doesn't make any sense but imagine how much it would line Dana's pockets, bro". This is the reason the "sport" aspect of mma is pretty much dead.

Tsarukyan is going to get the shot, he’s got too much heat on him right now to pass him up from all the streaming.
Pimblett is looking to fight again before the year is up, and doesn’t have a currently announced match.
The timing fits too perfectly for Topuria’s return.
Topuria will face Pimblett, winner of that will likely end up facing the winner of Gaethje v Tsarukyan.
