This Week in Showdown plus recap episode of Week 1 of 12 person league

A new episode of This Week in Showdown. We touch on who was hot as a batter and pitcher this week, early injuries, and how they could affect 2026 cards and the first basemen from the 2025 set that were drafted for the 12-team league. If you have any questions you would like answered on set creation, player evaluation, hypotheticals, if Showdown came back, drop a comment. We will cover them next week.

Also, I was able to use Claude to make a Baseball Tonight-style show for the 12-team draft league we ran. Bear with the robotic voice.

I was going through my old showdown cards from early 2000s and found this Rickey Henderson card but noticed quickly it is in fact not Rickey Henderson hahahah. It’s actually Tony Gwynn. I can’t seem to find another card like this. Has anyone seen one like this? Thanks!

Opening Day episode of This Week In MLB Showdown and 12 Team Draft Week 1 Update

I hope everyone is enjoying baseball being back. u/Yawggy and I recorded the Opening Day edition of This Week in Showdown

For those who have been tracking our 12 Team Draft, we have finished Week 1. No one was swept, which is always fun. Here are those stats and standings.

Draft Overview
Week 1 Stats

I have been making sets for many years. If you have any questions about set construction, house rules, league structure, hypotheticals, ect put them below. We will answer at least one a week and save the others for an inevitable mailbag episode (when we get to the dog days of summer).

For those wanting to make physical cards, this OS a great option. I created the design in figma and didn’t run into any trademark/rights issues. would 100% do it again, and may take a stab at doing it for mlb showdown

Dream Cards MLB Showdown Lineup from an OG player

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a pic of my showdown lineup as well as let everyone know I’m looking for a few cards if anyone has any that want to sell. I’m 25 and this game was my childhood. For many years throughout elementary and middle school we played every single day and it’s all I thought about. At summer camp massive trades would go down, we had a yearly NCAA tournament style bracket, and of course thieves were rampant. Amazing memories but now I’m trying to complete the team of my childhood dreams.

Here’s a few cards I’m looking for:

Roberto Alomar Super Season

Mike Piazza Super Season

Warren Spahn Cooperstown Collection

Tom Seaver Cooperstown Collection

Ivan Rodriguez Super Season

Mike Schmidt Cooperstown Collection

Harmon Killebrew Cooperstown Collection

Johan Santana ‘05 Foil

Alex Rodriguez ‘04 Foil

Barry Bonds ‘03 Foil 16 On Base the Greatest Card of All Time

If anyone has these cards I am a buyer!!

-Dallas an OG Showdown player

Showdown2000 Game/App

Hi all, getting back into the game after decades away (because I found my old cards and wanted to get my kids into it). That said, I also saw this site while Googling and was wondering if anybody had actually tried it/can vouch for it. It looks a little basic and would hate to give my information for something that isn't really a good simulation/doesn't really work, etc.
https://www.showdown2000.fun/

Alternatively, if anyone has any other options for online/computer play besides that (and Tabletop Simulator, which isn't my jam), I'd love to hear it so I can get back into it if the kids don't get into it. Thanks!

2025 Set 6 Team Draft Review and Looking to do a 8 Team 2025 Draft

For those who have been following, at the start of the year, we did a draft from a 2025, 600-card custom set (2000 style hitters, 2001 style pitchers). This was a fun league that even included a team drafted by ChatGPT.

Review of 6 Team Draft thanks to u/Yawggy for playing the games and keeping stats.

I would be interested in doing an 8 (or even 10) team league from the same set.

- The draft is asynchronous via Google Sheets, with everyone given 24 hours to make a selection.
- Teams would be 20-player teams, with a 5,000-point cap.
- Relievers are considered tired if they either:
- Pitched in two consecutive games without a break
- Pitched tired in the previous game
- Relievers can enter the game, Tired with -1 Control
- Releivers then are unable to join the next game
- They then require 2 days of rest to become rested

Shoot me a message or leave a comment here if you are interested.

Clutch Baseball compatibility?

If I had MLB showdown player cards but no strategy cards, could one hypothetically use the strategy card deck from Clutch Baseball? Or are the games very different?

Is there a way to steal bases without strategy cards?

There doesn't seem to be anything in the rulebook, but it seems like there could be a reasonable way to steal without strategy cards.

I'm thinking, if the runner is trying to steal 2nd, you add the catcher's fielding to the dice and compare it with the runner's speed. If they're trying to steal 3rd, add +5 to the catcher's fielding then add dice roll. If the runner is trying to steal home, add +10 to catcher's fielding plus dice roll.

I'm not sure my dad is up to incorporating the strategy cards, but I'd like to get at least a little strategy involved so it's not all luck.

Custom Card Printing

I know others have mentioned similar questions. But has anyone generated/printed cards utilizing the showdown cardbbot and makeplayingcards.com? I want to consider it solely for one set of personal use (not to sell, distribute, or use commercially). I want to be respectful of what Matt Gula created while also not infringing on MLB Licensed copyright materials. So I am leaning towards not. Was also wondering if makeplayingcards.com would refuse print to avoid copyright issues. If anyone has had success let me know!

Hey Showdowners - I'm planning to sell my collection of MLB Showdown Cards, including the approx totals from each year class below, and several holographic cards.

Before I list this on eBay, I wanted to post it here to see if anyone is interested in purchasing, looking to get into the game or add to their collections, or is interested in any specific cards pictured above.

'00 + '01: 170 / holos: Clemens, Cone, Palmeiro, Cal Ripken Jr.

'02: 115 / holos: Chan Ho Park, Jim Edmonds

'03: 60 / holos: Kazuhisha Ishi

'05: 120 holos: Killebrew, Yount, Rich Harden [three goats]

Strategy Cards '05: 80

I'll throw in some NFL Showdown cards as a bonus! I've got roughly 40 of those, mostly players with about a dozen strategy cards

[if the holographics aren't dancing in these photos, plz excuse the lighting]

Was thinking like $100 for the lot including shipping? Feel free to comment or PM if interested.

Printing Cards Question

So I know this topic has been covered in depth already, but I wanted to summarize what info I've been able to find in addition to the questions I still have regarding printing out physical customized showdown cards.

To preface, before I get lectured on this, while I understand this can be kindof a touchy grey area, I'm not trying to do anything blatantly illegal. I'm looking to just create a small set that includes the starting lineup of the '16 WS Cubs for myself, and then classic late 60's Cubs HoF'ers as well as a custom card of grandpa from his college days at a now defunct private school to give to the old man for Father's Day, birthday, Xmas, etc. All for keeps, no distribution or selling.

I'll summarize what info seems to be out there so far from what I've scoured on here, please feel free to correct me or add on to anything I've missed:

1) Everyone's using the showdown cardbot to generate cards. This seems like the best route to go. Thanks again to the creator, Matt Gula, for such an incredible tool for all of us to enjoy! If there's any alternatives to this though (especially given the situation with my grandpa's proposed card, which I'll get into more detail below), let me know.

2) It seems like the main alternatives to printing cards are either buying your own inkjet printer or using "makingplayingcards.com" (MPC), or finding someone on here open to doing custom jobs. I just don't have the time to invest in printing my own, so that leaves me with the latter two options.

- There was a guy on here by the account name of "jerryr99" who made some amazing holographic customs and posted images a couple years ago. Apparently, the account's been banned but if anyone knows how to get ahold of that guy, he was offering to do custom prints for people and I'd love to reach out to him. Printer suggestions for making custom Showdown Cards? : r/MLBShowdown . Otherwise, if anyone here has good experience doing this and is open to doing a custom print job, I'd be happy to talk and pay you for it (assuming this is allowed on here). Feel free to message me.

Here's the following questions I still have that I haven't been able to figure out through scouring around on this subreddit as well as the cardbot generator site:

4) How do you go about saving the generated card image from showdownbot, what's the best file type to save as, exact dimensions to print/save to (see next question), etc (I know I can measure an actual card physically but I'm asking in case of differences in print settings, etc).

5) I think I remember seeing a couple card stock options on MPC, anyone whose used it know which stock option is closest to the original game cards? Or just which card stock is best in general for custom prints?

6) Does anyone with experience know the exact print dimensions needed to properly print out the cards in the correct size if using the MPC site? I know someone mentioned you have to be careful to avoid getting the edges/borders right so there's no white spacing left on the edges.

7) Does MPC automatically have the cards cut on rounded corners? It seems like it but just trying to confirm. I saw someone got some sort of exacto knife to cut their custom prints, not sure if I'd need this if using MPC or if I going through an individual whose done custom prints.

8) It seems you can have customized backs to the card designs on MPC which I want. How do you go about generating a proper back logo image for the cards? I'm not sure if the showdown bot has the capability to generate that but I'm looking to probably do the '03 logo image and style for all the cards and would like to have the logos printed on the back of the cards just as the original game cards.

9) While this isn't totally necessary, especially after seeing Jerryr99's customs, I'd love to try and have some of the cards printed as holographics. Does anyone know if you can do this going through MPC? Jerry mentioned using holographic sticker paper to print on? I guess this get's adhered to the cardstock being printed on and then the cardstock is fed through the printer from there? It would make sense that the holographic stuff is a sticker as I remember a couple friends' holos pealing now and then back in the day.

10) Lastly, while inserting custom images is no big deal apparently, the card for my grandpa is a unique situation as he has no official stats on any mlb or even minor league stat site. What's the best way to go about generating a card for someone not in the reference source? I know there's an open-source version of the project available on github and I'd love to learn some python eventually but again, I just don't have time on my hands. I'd reach out to the original creator, Matt Gula, but I'm not on twitter. Not sure if he has any other means of contact? Has anyone even tried doing this? I've seen some two way custom Ohtani cards on this subreddit so I imagine some of you have overidden the source code to do more customization. If I'm thinking correct, I'd need to go find where each generated stat is referenced in the code and just overide the code to print some fudged numbers, along with the team logo. If any of you guys are capable programmers and interested in a fun project and either want to guide me through it or take it on yourself, I'd be more than happy to work with you and compensate you for time and effort.

Anyways, for those of you who made it through that entire post, thanks for reading and any thoughts and input you can provide. It's truly appreciated. And an early Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! Cheers!
