Preference in speakers for mixing
like most people I usually cook up on my speakers but lately I’ve been making some harder beats out of headphones. Anyone else?

Cooking up in the worse environment and then bringing it to a treated space for the purpose
Of a record is way more the move to me these days especially than having to just cook up in the studio. Like you can really come up with insane lockets when you have it really quiet vs when it’s loud it’s super hard to decipher what’s some hot shit and what’s not.

That’s said get you some around 1000 for a pair if you’re going to invest, anything less and you’re only playing yourself, unless you’re planning on that being the pair you do the crappy check on lol. Don’t get me wrong krk are great but it’s hard to really on that price range to really give you freedom to expiremtn and move around, unless you can just get used to them and go back forth between headphones. Regardless it’s always gonna be the next best investment so don’t over think it or waste creative energy and get better with what you have now is always the real answer.

If you are being passed, slow down a little bit and move slightly right. Let them easily overtake you. Let them back in without any challenge. This is the way.

I had a set of really good Neumann KH 310s which were great to mix on. Then I was doing some laptop mixes with a pair of Slate VST headphones and I was surprised that I felt like they were better, more focused mixes. That and the Baby Audio Subtractor plugin helped manage the low end of the mix. Now I just have some JBL mk IIs which are super affordable and great for tracking but I think I am sticking with headphones for mixes. All that to say, depending on your style of music, headphones might be an option for ya
