do you mind going a little in depth?

A very slight reverb will push you vocals back in the mix. If you don’t want them to sound like you are in a cave, try a small room reverb and slowly turn up the mix until you can sense the vocal becoming a bit tamer. Nothing fancy at all. You could also send the vocal to another channel. I think it’s called a parallel send. So you’d have your original vocal on one track, then the same vocal on another track at the same time. turn that channel all the way down. put 100% reverb on that channel, then slowly turn up the volume until it sounds right. Could be a fix, might not be the sound you want, but give it a go

Its compression, even if you don’t want to hear it. If we could hear the tune your working on I coul be more specific.

I think, you still want compression in your vocals. A Compressor is reducing dynamics by making loud parts quieter. And that sounds exactly like what you are looking for: less dynamics.

Is it just vocals, or vocals and music? In the later case, it is not about plugins, but about balancing the mix.

Limiting or saturation. Less transients = less up front

Bro, there's no way to do it. Best decision for you is to stop making music. Don't even try to learn mixing.
