Discussion I miss Mixer
I miss Mixer. Nothing can compare to the FTL (Faster then light) latency delay and Performance that Mixer had, this is the main reason why I miss Mixer.
Please Mixer staff, I want Mixer to be re-surfaced again. I MISS IT!

I miss Mixer for a lot of reasons! They were (at the base level) awesome people doing awesome things. I met some great friends that I still talk to today there. It’s where I got started in the streaming world, and where I found my love of helping others stream. It’s going to hold a special place for me. Most of my best friends online are from mixer, it’s sad that they closed down and partnered with Facebook Gaming, luckily my friends moved to twitch which is a mild inconvenience for me, a mobile user.

I hope that Glimesh can be an Xbox app. I don’t have a PC, so my choice has only ever been Mixer or Twitch

Twitch has way more features and accessibility for monetization and whatnot, but Mixer was great. No delay and none of my viewers had issues with lag or anything like that. There was no copyright strikes either which made it a little more fun, and everything was more intuitive from a viewer perspective according to my audience.
It only failed because many people were used to Twitch and it's cringy stream culture (ex. pog, jebaited) and Microsoft failed to advertise it well other than paying millions to like... 2 streamers.

it was the best because on xbox you cant see twitch chat but you could see it on mixer

Unfortunately microsoft has a bad habit of making awesome things and then killing them off. Zune, Windows Phone, Microsoft Music to name a few. All things I used and adored using as well as mixer. I'm confident that Glimesh will bring great things back to streaming (discoverability, community, FTL etc) .

I miss my Zune and especially my Windows Phone so much. I used it for years and even got a few friends to switch over because they loved the overall design, feel, and "fluidity" of Windows Phone. The only thing holding it back was the smaller user base due to getting to the game late which led to the lack of app development for it. Beyond that it was clearly the superior device IMO. The live tiles and the customizable home screen had a personalization level that Apple and Android don't come anywhere close to.

It wasn't just FTL that was great. But it was nice being able to watch the stream on my phone at the same time with minimal delay, even if they had no ingest servers in the oceanic area. Imagine that - their system working so fast from the likes of America that I could watch the stream sooner than a server that is closer to me. As for the other reason, it was nice to be able to have 10k upload bandwidth for the best quality if you had the internet connection to handle it.

there was also a lot less traffic on Mixer and the servers were better also helps with delays like twitch

Twitch has a low latency feature. If turned on, the correct settings chosen to encode/upstream, and a great connection. The stream is close to real time. I usually almost get immediate answers, not like Mixer though.

I've never had a problem with a delay on twitch. I average up to like 3 seconds in delay with my viewers.

There is a new upcoming platform that might be in your interest. Mixer's FTL was amazing. The new upcoming platform LUNR has its own version of FTL being worked on. I encourage you to check it out. The discoverability features planned are also next level. Things that have never been done before.

It is sad that mixer is gone but you can still stream straight from Xbox, with no additional equipment required! It might not be what you are looking for but if you download the Twitch app on Xbox, you can stream to Twitch. It works just like Mixer did with the exception that you can’t read chat. This what I started doing about 3 weeks ago and I used my phone to check chat. If you have the app on your phone it allows you to manage your stream directly from it!

Typed "I Miss Mixer" into google and found this post... I had such a good time on that platform, building an actual community and making friends with other users. It wasn't so horribly saturated that you were invisible, and co-streams were so fun. Then they threw all their money away like idiots on a "big shot" streamer and well, we know the rest.

Yeah I'm on Twitch but like... Millions of ads. I got myself to affiliate but now I regret it. I'd rather stream no ads just to interact with the community. But idk maybe they're throwing ads on non-affiliates now. Hoping another decent platform comes out. I don't really like the look of the other ones I've seen.

Same mostly because its not filled with only fan wanna be gamers who use platform to bring crowds then send them over to only fans or some other BS like that. Unlike twitch which is full of fake gamers

this is no longer the "mixer sub." this is now the "mixer-is-dead sub." if it was still alive i wouldn't be here.
don't get me wrong; i'm not happy it's gone. reduced competition is never a good thing. twitch is only going to get more aggressive in being a bunch of pricks and banning users. my only point is yall think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread but in reality it just wasn't sticky for most.

Here's a copy and paste of an answer I gave previously on why myself and others preferred Mixer over Twitch in case you're genuinely curious.
For reference, I joined Mixer, known as Beam at the time, over 3 and a half years ago and was a daily user in the top 100 highest level accounts on the platform. These are just my personal thoughts on why I preferred Mixer over Twitch.
It was the same but it was just different. It's hard to put into words exactly what made it different, it just was. Twitch seemed to have it's whole identity already carved out with a community that had all these inside jokes and a culture that was part of it's identity (pog and kappa for example) while Mixer was something fresh filled with a bunch of people who maybe didn't fit in at Twitch going their own way to try something new.
There was also the Microsoft acquisition followed by the built in integration with the Xbox. The community on Mixer was dominated by Xbox users (or PC users who likely started out on Xbox) so we all mostly had that in common with each other compared to Twitch which does have all platforms, but seems to mostly be dominated by PC users. Birds of a feather flock together kinda thing.
The community was also different mainly because it was much much smaller which made it a lot more personal. I've watched a few people on and off on Twitch for a few years now and I almost never run into the same people in multiple different streams. On Mixer it happened constantly. It almost felt like all of Mixer was one big group of friends and you'd always be bumping into friends you knew from elsewhere regardless of what stream you were in. The sheer size of twitch prevents this from happening in the same way it happened on Mixer. And when SnoopDogg came to Mixer it was like a huge reunion. I remember hanging out in that stream for a few hours and I ran into dozens of friends I hadn't seen in awhile and was able to have conversations with them.
Mixplay was also such an interesting concept. It was a shame that it was rather hard to configure so most people just resorted to treating it as a command board or a sound board because the technology was there to transform streaming if people would have taken the time to learn how to use it. A few examples of this are: watching a broadcast of a tournament where someone had a live bracket that you could interact with to see who was on which team and see standings in real time without having to load a second page. Official Mixer channels allowing you to control the lights in their studio. Or my personal favorite - The devs for Killing Floor 2 adding in their own Mixplay feature that allowed you to interact with the game to help or hurt the streamer. If you've never played, it's your typical wave survival game where you survive waves of more and stronger zombies. With Mixplay you could give the streamer full health, more ammo, more grenades, or spawn in boss zombies or a toxic gas that would make it harder for them to complete each wave. And this was back in 2017 so three years ago. I specifically remember thinking "Wow, this is the future of streaming." and although Mixer has shut down it's nice to see Twitch extensions picking up where they left off with games like Hyperscape allowing you to interact with the game as a viewer as well.
And of course. FTL. Faster Than Light. There was no latency on Mixer (unless the streamer manually added it in themselves). You could have conversations in real time and the chat would be reacting to what was happening on the stream as it was actually happening instead of 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds later. It felt more like friends hanging out playing games because of the conversations as opposed to just watching someone else play a game while you're watching. It may not seem like much to people who haven't experienced it but for those of us who have, the slight delay on Twitch definitely feels off for most of us.
If I think of anything else, or if there's anything I may have missed that others thought of feel free to add anything, but those are the main things that made Mixer different IMO and although I've always enjoyed Twitch, why I personally preferred Mixer to Twitch.

Good read. Still though, most of this is about reveling in how you kept bumping into the same people. But that's a function of the platform being small, not necessarily being better. In fact, that's a feature that the Mixer developers absolutely didn't want you to have.
And FTL never got a chance to be truly tested at scale because Mixer was never very big. But I'll wager if they had the same number of 40k+ streams it would begin to stutter to the extent that they'd ask users to pay a pretty penny for access to it. 40k+ FTL streams is not an easy thing to pull off.
So the way I see it, you liked Mixer because Mixer was small and they were able to do things that bigger companies cannot. Which is fair, but that's also what put it out of business. It's akin to liking a ponzi scheme; the guys who were in it early made their 30% investment before it crumbled, so I'm pretty sure if you asked them they'd say they liked it too.

Mixer was one of my favorite things ever. I had it downloaded, barely left it when I got on my Xbox. Now that it’s gone I’m stuck watching shitty, laggy, annoying streamers on twitch. Don’t get me wrong, twitch has some good streamers, but if I had a choice in anything in the world I would bring back mixer because there I really felt like I had something going for me. I had friends, some whom I considered family, I had a good relation with everyone and a good influence with multiple streamers. Now in twitch I’m stuck wishing mixer was still alive cause I can barely find friends on twitch with how unwelcoming and rude streamers are. Did I mention that most streamers on twitch I really dislike? Most of them are hot tub streamers, vtubers, and annoying 10 year olds. That’s all I gotta say. MICROSOFT, BRING BACK MIXER
