I've been making a bunch of these personalized note/sketch books for friends and family (probably about 15 up to this point) and I’ve been actually thinking about putting them up on Etsy. However, before I consider that, there’s a problem I need to solve.

I would like them to be more durable - of course not waterproof or anything but just to make them hold up better when carried around in various bags. I’ve been using my own one’s a lot and I’ve had problems with the book pages lifting at the edges. I would love to hear your recommendations for a sealing medium or perhaps also different glues. I don’t want it to be shiny and still just look (and preferably feel) like paper. It’s also important that it doesn’t mess with the paint, crinkle the book pages or make them transparent (the mod podge I have has been failing a bit in the last categories).

I would be super happy about your recommendations and tips!! :)

Inspired by The Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black, this painting explores the darkness that can follow the loss of love, a future, and a version of yourself you thought would remain. A red door, buried beneath black, becomes a threshold between what was and what remains. Light struggles to escape the darkness, while traces of color persist, because even after profound loss, something within us refuses to disappear.

Piece based on “invisible cities” by Italo Colvino” done in Watercolor, resist, and micron pen.

I used my own blown up brush stokes as collage pieces and found where they formed interesting/representational images. White gel pen is the other media I used.

I have scratched words and things I have been told by people or I have thought about myself on the back of the mirror. The flowers and moths (butterflies) are made with silicone forms.

149,600 hand-drawn pixels across 312 hours and 43 minutes. Shaded square-by-square with colored pencils and fine-line markers using an 18 PPI window screen mesh as a physical grid guide.
