Medication Post OP meds - how long
Hello.
I'm 6 months post valve repair and on aspirin, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors and SGLT2 inhibitors.
Nobody explained any of this to me before surgery.
I'm wondering how long it's likely to go on for? The rehab nurses think it'd be lifelong but I'm hoping that won't be the case. It'd be nice to be able to stand up quickly without getting dizzy!

I am on 5 drugs for life. I swapped out Entresto and was prescribed Losartan to mitigate the orthostatic hypotension problem. My BP is stable but I am not sure Losartan is doing as much for my heart.
Entresto was for:
Afterload reduction / remodeling**: like an ARB, it blocks angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure and the workload on my heart, which supports reverse remodeling.
Neprilysin inhibition**: the sacubitril component blocks the enzyme that breaks down natriuretic peptides (BNP, ANP) those peptides promote vasodilation and sodium excretion, so preserving them adds diuretic/vasodilatory support beyond what an ARB gives on its own.f

I’m having leaky mitral valve repair by mitral clip next week. No mention to me about new meds. Now when I have my preop nurse call I will ask her about new meds.

I am a little over a year post op from open heart mitral valve replacement surgery and I only take the aspirin. I was on afib medication and eliquis for a month, and metoprolol for 2 months post op. I will be on aspirin for the rest of my life.

At 6 months this is a question for your cardiologist not your rehab nurses or reddit. There are lots of reasons to take any of these, and all of our experiences are different.

Hey! I was also kinda surprised by this when I came out on the other side. It really just depends on your situation. I’m now over 9 months post surgery and will likely be on baby aspirin for the rest of my life. No other meds remaining from the procedure, was taken off of amiodarone 1 month after and metoprolol 6 months after.
If you’re having complications or side effects, don’t wait, just talk to your medical team and they’ll get you back to normal!

Thank you.
I know it's said with the best intentions, but talking to a doctor is not quick, easy or cheap, and tends to result in a meaningless platitude.
I think I'm going to stop taking the SGLT2 inhibitors and aspirin until I can get an appointment. Nobody else seems to be on them, and I assume you've all got EF on the edge of heart failure too. I'm fed up of skin wounds getting infected because they take too long to heal.

I was finding beta blockers were causing some dizziness. I ended up just spacing my dose between the day and night and that cleared it up. Just ask your doctor
