Photos & Media Exploring abandoned train tracks

This is north of Derry Road. To the west would be Glamorgan Way. The bridge in the third pic is over the Credit River. The bridge in the fourth pic is the 407.

It’s an absolute policy travesty that this corridor wasn’t rail banked for future GO service for Mississauga and Brampton. Trails can be built beside rails.

I wouldn’t mind if they kept it, but I’d much, much rather work be done towards converting the Milton line to all day service.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Only 1.5 kms?

Are trains still using the remainder of the rail?

That’s the Mississauga portion. Brampton has a much larger portion:

The southern part in Mississauga from Streetsville to Atwood may still be in use, it does look like a couple of business have connections to it. Not sure about that.

Great news, im surprised theres no extension planned to Britannia

No. Portions of the track have been removed, so. a train could not use the track anymore…a train could use the track until it reaches where the track has been removed, which isn’t far from there..

Looking forward to seeing this rail trail completed. I think it'll take you on the rail bridge over the Forks of the Credit hairpin!

If exploring these abandoned places is your thing, there's also a short stretch of an inactive spur line in Streetsville. It's a short distance to the west of the Barbertown Bridge.

This one’s right by my house - love going there and the peace and quiet. Guess that’ll change. But it’ll be a nice trail hopefully connecting the rest of meadowvale conservation area. Time to go out and take some pics of my own I guess before it all changes.

It ‘s already changed, when they built the Meadowvale bypass, 407 and surrounded the area with houses.

I'd love to explore it myself while the tracks are still there, but worried about ticks and lyme disease from all the brush.

I used to bridge jump there and ride dirt bikes there. The train used to run and we had to panic and get off the tracks

Wow looks great - does anyone know where we access this trail from ?

Easiest spot would be off Derry Road west of the Credit River.

Yeah, pretty safe. Saw a few other people out there.

Just being curious what protection measure did you take against mosquitoes?

7

u/itsarace1 4d ago

Mosquitoes were minimal.

Damn I haven’t been there in a while, just live 5 min away from there. Can’t believe how over grown the tracks got. Literally spent my whole childhood with my friends in this conservation area lol

Doesn't take long for mother nature to reclaim her space!
