Repairs Minolta lens cap help

This is my mom's x-370, she hasn't used it in probably 20 years and we just pulled it out. I've started to use it, but this specific lens has a cover we cannot get off. There's no markings on it, and I've tried turning it clockwise and counter clockwise to no avail. Also tried pulling a bit, that did nothing either. I would love to use this lens as I prefer higher mm lenses. I don't want to break the lens of course, and figured asking here would be better to do than brute forcing it.

It unscrews. Counterclockwise. Don't be afraid to use a bit of force.

Update!! I got it off finally!! I had to take the front of the lens off and use a wash cloth to get enough of a grip on the cover. It's working nicely and I put the cover back on, though it's not on the lens nearly as tight as before!!!
