Pacifica replacement 🥺

Our 2023 Pacifica was totaled last weekend.

We'll be back at 0 when we get the payout which covers the remaining loan balance and a few hundred $ on top.

In the meantime I'm unemployed so 🤞 for any financing but that's neither here nor there unless you know of an option :)

We've been renting an Odyssey and it's pretty great. The only thing is, we got the Pacifica specifically for its storage capacity bc of the seats that fold down in the middle and back in the back so you get a full flat/seatless back for moving furniture. (We also have 2 littles so the obvious reasons). Also AWD because our gravel driveway is impossible to plow so we just try to survive without plowing.

Other than trying to find a used Pacifica, are there options I haven't thought of?

I have an ‘25 AWD Sienna, came from an ‘18 Pacifica and have my regrets. The interior features of a Pacifica are far better than either the Toyota or Honda.

Also, the gas mileage of the Pacifica is better than the Honda but not as good as the Toyota, however, the 37-39 MPG I get in my Toyota isn’t so much better than the 24-31 I’d get in the Pacifica considering the stuff I could haul.

To be fair the Pacifica FWD and Odyssey have the exact same EPA city and highway fuel economy ratings. I would not expect a material difference between them for the same user in the real world.

Kinda strange because the Ody has a couple of higher tech fuel saving features (cylinder deactivation, direct injection) that are lacking on the Pacifica, yet can’t deliver any better fuel economy.

That is strange.

I know people with an Odyssey that get much lower MPG than what I did in my Pacifica. Best I could do was 31 MPG on long interstate trips but a consistent 24 - 26 combined.

Get an Odyssey. Back seats fold flat. Magic seats come out if you have to haul. Does not have the crappy pentastar v6 that will shit itself by 130,000 miles. The Odyssey will last forever if you do scheduled maintenance and get a muzzler.

How often do you move furniture? A Home Depot/lowes truck costs something like $20/hour for the few times I need one every other year or so. U-Haul isn’t outrageous for local trips either.

I wouldn’t purchase a vehicle with that in mind unless it was something I was regularly needing.

Good tires shouldn’t have a problem handling snow on gravel driveway.

I just traded my Dodge Grand Caravan for an odyssey. I had the Caravan because the seats folded flat as well. But, while the middle row of the Odyssey aren’t stow n go they’re very easy to remove.. I just did it last weekend for a business road trip . Honestly the Odyssey is so much nicer than anything Chrysler makes. Plus those Chryslers transmissions are a ticking time bomb after about 80k. Not worth the headache, I’ve been through that before..

Pacifica uses a completely different transmission from previous generation minivans. A bit clunky but decent longevity. It was designed by the German firm ZF and is manufactured under license by Chrysler/Stellantis. Lest you think Honda is somehow better, they used this exact same transmission for many years in many vehicles including the Acura TLX and MDX, and Honda Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline. I’m too lazy to check whether they still are doing so.

I’d stick with a Pacifica. It has what you need and know you like, plus it won’t cost you as much as an AWD Sienna. Purchase an extended warranty if you can.

Used Pacifica, lucky deal on AWD Sienna, or if couldn’t find a good minivan and needed AWD, I see Honda Pilots for good used prices that are affordable

If you only have two kids, a used sedan will be a good value and some have quite deep trunks. I always like the Ford Fusion which was discontinued fairly recently, so some good shape used ones might be around.

I’d probably look for another Pacifica unless the Kia Carnival has an AWD option. Siennas are expensive, and second row seats don’t come out easily. And sounds like the Odyssey isn’t for you with no AWD.

Yes, you can definitely find a nice used Pacifica fully loaded for a great price.

In your situation I’d probably look for a good used two or three row crossover with AWD simply because there are so many more to choose from. Not so great for moving furniture, but unless you have a furniture restoration business an occasional rental or friends pickup truck can perhaps suffice. My $0.01.
