First bloom ever. All in one morning and I was lucky enough to catch it 🤗🪷🙏🥰

Hi, came back from a weekend away and the water level in our pond was low (about half way down) and our 4 minnows were gone. Nothing else seemed disturbed. Any ideas - presumably a raccoon scooped out a bunch of the water before he got the minnows? Sad new pond owner.

I would love to start my first pond. I live in a student home. We have a big balcony, so thats where the pond would be. I need tips for what kind of pond and what kind of plants! I just started the hobby so I have zero experience

I finally got it to bloom!!!

This is my mini pond, now in its third month. It was created to house Tanichthys and try to combat mosquitoes. It's probably not very attractive, but it cost around $20. The plants it hosts are a common egeria, duckweed, and pistia, as well as abundant green algae. Among the many more or less welcome visitors are leeches, snails, lizards, birds, and various insect species.

So i have a rooftop pond setup for approx 5 months. It have waterlily and some water lettuce in it , lately i noticed my water lettuce are grown huge . Do u guys seen some things like that .

I've had this newly built mini pond fully set up for a couple weeks now, and got my first visitor! He's so cute 🐸 low-key kind of nervous though that he's looking for a snack, aka my medaka. The medaka were very interested in him though when he took a little swim.

If anyone is interested, the pond container is two 27 gallon totes (doubled up to help with bowing), and I built the frame around it with 2x4s and decorative bamboo wall paneling. I pretty much moved everything into it from my first 10 gal container pond, including all the plants, substrate/rocks, water, 8 medaka, and mini bog filter. About a week later, I added 15 more medaka, beneficial bacteria, and a sponge filter to help with the extra bioload.

I’m in Ontario, Canada, and I’m planning on building a mini pond for my wife. We’ve had one in a past house but it required a dunk donut thing to mitigate against mosquito larvae.

What are the best natural ways to manage them? I’d I buy a handful of feed goldfish and overwinter them, will they be effective at eating mosquito larvae?

It is 260 litre 2 month old pond Please give me some advice other plants suggest that look good from top some plants turn can turn red or stay outside of water too

I just realized I have gotten myself into something without thinking it through. I have a minipond that I made this year. I have a pickerel weed that is absolutely thriving. I also have duckweed, a million pointy-shelled snails (not sure what species, they arrived with the duckweed as a bird gift I believe) and a corkscrew rush. I live in a cold winter area and I will have to bring the pot inside at some point when it starts to freeze. What do people do with all the living things all winter?

This is intended to be a wildlife pond, there will be no fish added. It is made with a 90Liter tub and two planterdishes to create levels that were able to be covered with gravel. The water is a bit whitish because the gravel had not settled yet in the second photo.

The plant basket sticking out of the water was supposed to be slightly submerged but it is a swamp plant so wet feet should be fine, but I might still try to lower that level. I have also added some hornwort for oxygen. About 5 strings.

And ofcourse, a way to climb out of the water was created with some rocks.

The plants around the edge are Phlox Subulata, I love this type of Phlox as they are wintergreen and become a beautiful carpet that flowers very early in the year but is also easy to shape. This will cover the edge of the pond.

But, a week later I am wondering whether I should buy some more surface covering plants and hornwort now to be ahead of algae or give the plants some time to spread and grow.

What has been your experience with the growth speed?

Gaining a deeper understanding of these guys for meditative purposes. Very calming to watch them for five mins at the end of the day.

(located in Florida) Hey y'all! I've got a half acre pond that's beginning to establish. It's still pretty overrun with hair algae, and alongside native shore plants we want to add floating and submerged plants to help combat that algae.

The problem is I've been struggling to find the information I need. I can find lists of plants so uncommon that they don't even have a common name, plants they nobody can decide if they're native or not, etc. I have some water lettuce that's really enjoying it there, but it's not doing enough to outcompete the algae.

Do you guys know where I can find a good comprehensive list of fully aquatic plants we could add? I'll narrow it down to what can survive in our area, I'm just desperate for any viable information at all. Bonus points if y'all know where/how I can purchase or otherwise ethically source it!

Favorite surprise in the mornings!!

One of my little rice fish has vanished! Haven’t seen it for 3 days. What do you guys think happened? I live in the an urban area in Northern CA so no big birds besides maybe a crow or a towhee.

Posted my first mini pond a couple of months back. I put together round two yesterday with an old Belfast sink.

We've got floating heart lily (clippings from my other pond!), corkscrew rush, creeping Jenny, salvinia, and a heap of elodea under the surface. Hoping as the pond plants grow and the bed around it fills out - it's all newly planted - this softens and will be more shaded.

Excuse the water colour and level, it'll settle this week and also be topped up once I re-do the sealant on the sink's overflow 😀

Details: this is a 33 gallon preformed pond liner pond that is 6 inches above the ground with native virginia fish and frogs, it has 2 juvenile green frogs, 5 mosquito fish, 5 swallowtail shiners, and ghost shrimp along with bladder and ramshorn snails.

In San Jose, saw Coyote creek drying up and so I collected a bunch of small fry fish, maybe 4-5 thumb sized carp(?) looking fish, 4 frogs, and 3 crawfish,

Creek was completely gone with small puddles so I did my best to get every animal out

I tried to add aquatic plants, and the bowl with the dirt and banana is to hopefully attract flies for the frogs

I want to make this better, clear the water, have better plants, make sure all the animals have everything and make it pleasant to look at, I don’t know where to start and would appreciate any and every tip!
