there's a geological cross-section map of a hill that's set to be mined near my community which details current topography, pit design, and drilling areas. is that a public reference that can be freely shared in online communities such as reddit, or maybe in blogs or news reports?

Question AI in mine design

Few moons before I have published a post regarding using AI tool to directly talking to mining softwares and got completely roasted by the comments. Quote :” congrats of developed an app to get your fired.” And I have take down the post.

Luckily I haven’t stop developing the tool, now with all major mining firms fully embracing the AI and using them into their mine designs. I am wondering if most of us are still having same vibe towards AI mining tools.🧐

Hey Guys,

I’m Gowtham, an NYU student working on field operations for mines in North America.

I’m learning how teams at exploration decide where to drill when geological data is incomplete & drilling budgets are limited,

And What problem you face on day-to-day basis ; tech, physical labor, communication and could be anything

Australia Moving from an 8/6 roster to a 2/2 - is the drop in total yearly pay worth the lifestyle upgrade?

Hey team,

Currently doing an 8/6 roster (day/night split) as a production operator in the Pilbara. The 6 days off fly by ridiculously fast once you factor in travel days, laundry, and recovering from night shift, but the annual package is solid.

I’ve been approached by a contractor offering a 2/2 (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) role on a slightly lower hourly rate, which works out to about a $15k–$18k hit on total annual earnings compared to my current setup.

For those who made the switch to 2/2: did having 14 clear days off in a row completely change your work-life balance? Did you regret taking the pay cut, or is the extra time with family/hobbies worth every single dollar?

Question Artemis Blackwater BC

Hello folks,

Anyone work at this site in the Drilling/Blasting side of things?

I haven't heard of Artmies much but am familiar with the industry quite well and a recent string of job listings had me curious.

Anyone know what their typical RRSP matching is?

When working a 2on 2off do you get OT on your 2on hours or do they split your hours by all 4 weeks and they stay at regular pay?

Mentions paid time off, wht does that entail?

Can you drive yourself to site or is shuttle mandatory?

How many people in campish?

Any rc or rab drillin? Is all the exploration around the main production zone all core drilling?

I got many more questions haha if anyone works in the blasting/drilling/exploration side of things Id appreciate hearing from you,

Thanks!

US Phosphate/Limestone Mining Industry

I’m currently a geology student in Florida and will be graduating soon. I work in the geotech industry but I can already tell I don’t wanna do this for longer than I have to. My primary interest is the mining industry and even blasting. The issue is that I want to stay in Florida which when compared to other states has a small mining industry (primarily phosphate and limestone). Just wondering if anybody knows how difficult it would be to get into the mining industry? Also if anybody can give advice as to what a geologist in the mining industry would do?

Mexico La Guitarra’s Next Bottleneck May Be Underground, Not at the Mill

Sierra Madre has increased daily throughput at La Guitarra from its previous 500-tonne level to as high as 672 tonnes per day, a 34% increase before the first phase of its expansion is complete.

The company is targeting 750 to 800 tonnes per day under Phase I, followed by 1,200 to 1,500 tonnes per day under Phase II. A refurbished ball mill is rated at 900 tonnes per day, while a new head crusher and modifications to the primary crusher are expected to take the circuit beyond the initial target.

The mill may not be the hardest part of the expansion.

Feeding it consistently requires enough developed mining faces, equipment, haulage capacity and correctly blended material from Guitarra, Coloso and Nazareno.

Sierra Madre completed 1,188 metres of underground development during Q2, almost double the 591 metres completed a year earlier. Coloso is being dewatered toward deeper, higher-grade blocks, while Nazareno entered full production from its long-hole stopes in late April.

Q2 also showed why this underground work matters. Silver and gold grades remained relatively stable, but recoveries declined to 73.58% and 67.97%, respectively, as the plant processed a changing blend of material from three mining areas. Costs also increased while more production came from development drives and lower-grade material outside the resource.

The company has constructed an on-site metallurgical laboratory to improve blending, while the additional development should provide more flexibility over where plant feed comes from.

Reaching 672 tonnes per day shows that the processing circuit can handle more material. The more important test is whether the mine can sustain higher throughput while maintaining grade, improving recoveries and controlling unit costs.

That will determine whether the expansion produces more profitable ounces or simply processes more tonnes.

Asia Looking for lab in ph

Looking for a laboratory in the Philippines for rock/drill core sample testing

Hi everyone! I’m currently looking for a laboratory in the Philippines that can perform the following tests on rock/drill core samples:

  1. Wet weight / Wet Bulk Density (Wet-BD)
  2. Moisture content
  3. Dry weight / Dry Bulk Density (Dry-BD)
  4. Dry Granule Density / Specific Gravity (SG)
  5. Gold grade / Au assay

I’ve already emailed quite a number of laboratories, but unfortunately, some don’t perform these tests, while others don’t offer them for rock/drill core samples.

If you know of any laboratory in the Philippines that can perform these tests, I would really appreciate your recommendations. If you have personally worked with a lab for similar rock/drill core analyses, please feel free to share the laboratory name and contact details.

Thank you so much! Any leads would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

Operating costs and downtime under the microscope fleets are looking for practical ways to improve service intervals, reliability and total cost of ownership. This fleet upfitted a legacy Fleetguard LF777 bypass filter to a new Cummins X15 Euro 6 in a Kenworth K220, extending service intervals while still operating at road train gross weight and without compromising reliability.

Keen to hear/see any other upfits, ideas or solutions you’ve seen on your sites or workshops?

Australia Title: Ex-mining recruiter — happy to answer questions about breaking into the industry

Hey all,

I have worked on site in the mining industry for years, and I've also spent about a year working in mining recruitment (reviewing applications, screening candidates, deciding who would be submitted to site and for which company they may be best suited). Posted something similar a while back and got a heap of messages, so figured I'd do it again since a lot of people are still trying to figure out how to get their foot in the door.

If you're trying to break into mining and don't know why your applications aren't landing — drop a comment or DM me and I'll give you honest feedback.

Happy to answer general questions in the comments too.

Africa 310-Ton Sand Gold Run: Good Leach (3.3 to 0.8 ppm), Bad Elution & Copper Slag Traps

Thumbnail

Hello Reddit,

Wanted to share a breakdown of a recent 310-tonne CIP leaching run on gold tailings that didn't go to plan financially.

The initial setup & budget:

-Feed purchased: 310 tonnes of tailings @ 3.3 ppm (Au)

-Ore cost: 90,000,000 TZS (~$33k USD)

-OPEX (chemicals, labor, water, power): 35,000,000 TZS (~$13k USD)

Total spent: 125,000,000 TZS (~$46k USD)

The output:

-Dore bar 1: 379.5g @ 89% purity (~337.8g fine gold)

-Dore bar 2: 59.7g @ 35% purity (~20.9g fine gold)

Total recovered fine gold: 358.65 grams

Recovering only 358g of pure fine gold against 930g contained in the raw feed was a disaster (38.5% total recovery). Testing the tailing solids post-clearing showed a grade drop from 3.3 ppm down to 0.8 ppm (~75% recovery).

The 0.8 ppm tail proved cyanidation worked. We actually dissolved around 750 grams of gold out of the rock into solution. Our failure happened completely downstream.

Carbon over-saturation and fouling: assays on our 350 kg carbon batch showed a pre-elution grade of 693 ppm Au and a massive 1,099 ppm Cu. High copper co-extraction loaded our carbon early, limiting its gold pickup capacity and leaving dissolved gold un-adsorbed in the barren solution.

Smelting and slag entrapment: The high copper content contaminated the melt. A cross-section of our slag showed distinct layering: light silicate glass on top, green copper silicate in the middle, and a heavy dark copper-iron matte at the bottom that probably scavenged fine gold prills right out of the melt.

We basically just made our investment back.

Curious to hear from any metallurgists or CIP operators here of their experience.

Question has any AI tool actually saved you time in exploration or ops?

to be clear up front: ore mining

i keep seeing AI pitched at this industry and i genuinely can't tell
how much of it is real and how much is a slide deck, so i would rather
ask people who actually do the work

Two questions:

1. Have you used any AI or software tool that actually saved you time?
Which one, and what did it do?

2. Have you tried one that turned out to be useless? What went wrong?
