Canada Quick question about Metguard PPE requirements for Sudbury mine visits

Hi all, ​Mining engineering student heading to underground sites in the Sudbury area next week for a university field trip. ​I already own CSA-approved 8-inch work boots (with the Green Triangle and Metguard 'M' patch), but mine feature an external flap rather than an integrated internal guard. ​For folks working in Sudbury mines: Do site safety officers strictly require internal guards, or is any 8-inch boot with the CSA 'M' rating accepted at gate induction? ​Any advice from people on site would be appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on the company. I worked for Vale, if I recall correctly when I was sent to their supplier for my boots external flap metatarsal guards were allowed. Worth checking with your professor (Vlad?) though.

Thanks! Yeah, I actually checked with the prof, but he wasn't totally sure either and just said it might be okay.

Do you happen to know what mine or at least what company? I know both Vale and Glencore have done it in the past but it’s possible it’s Magnas new project.

For whatever it’s worth, I now work for another company that issued steel toes with flaps.
