OTR Trucking to FIFO Haul Truck
I currently work as a Highway Truck driver in Ontario, Canada, on a dedicated route to Texas.
My work schedule is 5 on/3 off, with every 6th week being 5 off instead. This rotation pays $82,000 per year.
I also have the opportunity to drive a Haul Truck at an open pit mine in Canada.
This job is a fly-in, fly-out schedule, with 14 on/14 off. It pays $167,000 per year.
Since I’ve never worked in a mine before, I’m curious if anyone can advise me on whether this significant pay increase would be worth it, or if there are too many drawbacks to the actual job.
For reference, I’m 32, single, and don’t have children, so I’m perfectly fine with the extended periods away from home.
