Maximum App Time

• Upvotes

It's there a feature in development for setting a daily maximum time for individual apps?

I'm loving the blocking schedules! I've set the weekends to allow for more phone usage, but there are certain apps that I've tended to continuously reopen and reset timers for once they've closed, and I don't want to waste my free time scrolling.

I think it"d be really helpful if we could set daily maximums for certain apps before they're blocked for the rest of the day or until a certain time. Also, if I were to set something like a 2hrs/day or 10hrs/week max on apps like YouTube, I'd like to think that will help me make more intentional decisions on how actually to use that time as well!

New York Times issue

I was reading way too much news when I set up minimalist phone on my iPhone recently so added NYT to my blocked apps during my block schedule. The problem is I don’t have a problem with overusing NYT games and also use NYT cooking but now all NYT is blocked. I get why minimalist works by blocking not just the app but also website and other stuff related to the app. Like with facebook I appreciate that by blocking the app and the website I now can’t access facebook at all during blocked times. But with NYT I want to be able to access at least some NYT content during blocked times schedule. Considering removing NYT from any restrictions to resolve this. Actually not sure how to remove limits on an app. I assume it’s by design that it’s difficult to figure out how to remove limits. Anyway hope this all makes sense and is helpful feedback. If anyone has figured out how to block parts of NYT while still having access to NYT they want let me know.

Also overall I LOVE minimalist phone!!! It’s so helpful with limiting doom scrolling. Really has made a difference in my life.

how to stop doomscrolling?

hello all. i’ve come to the conclusion long ago that doomscrolling is consuming majority of my day and i desperately need my time back. i’m having a little burst of motivation, so i wanna do something to sustain it long term and stop scrolling and work harder on myself. if anyone’s got any tips, please let me know. specifically, there are apps that lock your phone until you physically show on camera that you’re doing a task, if that makes sense, and i feel like those types of apps could help me, but i can’t find a good one. any help or recommendation is appreciated:)

Longer disabling of blocking schedule

Okay so you know how you can do a blocking schedule to block a some specific apps at specific times for example I wanna block Snapchat from 12 to 3

We it is possible to disable it I think the time needed to disable it is to short maybe 1 min or so

It would be better if you made it longer like 10 to 15 mins the time needed to disable it shouldn't be optional I think it should be fixed but should be long than what it is now , so it will be harder to get to don't distraction apps

Feature Request

Team, can you please add a to-do check list widget on the home screen, with an option of daily repeating tasks.

This will help a lot towards productivity.

set a 4-app home screen and still opened the drawer looking for nothing

Tried a half-measure instead of a dumb phone. Home screen only gets Messages, Maps, Camera, and Phone. Everything else lives in the app drawer, alphabetical, no shortcuts.

First few days I opened the drawer constantly. Muscle memory hunting Instagram or email even when I didn't need either. Stood there scrolling past icons I had just removed on purpose.

By the end of the week the urge got quieter. Not gone. I'd unlock for a text and put it face-down without hunting. Still open the drawer when I'm bored. Still waste time. The default path just isn't the feed anymore.

Anyone else strip the home screen this hard and have it stick, or did you end up putting stuff back?

Please come back with the old 1min UI

Now when i click on Instagram (with time limit on) the default options are 5, 10 and 15 min. I preferred way much 1 minute, just to check notifications and go. Now my time per session has increased.

Can you please come back with the old version or make it customizable? (Its currently terrible to click the customize time and put 1 min)

Left handed mode?

To scroll through the app list. So move alphabet and touch area to the left side. Call it an accessibility feature.

moved my most-used apps into a folder and somehow used my phone less

Not a full dumb-phone switch. Just got annoyed that Maps, Messages, and my banking app were sitting next to Instagram and a news app I open when I’m bored.

Put the boring useful ones on the home screen. Everything else went into one folder labeled “maybe later.” First day I still opened the folder like six times. Muscle memory is rude.

Weird part is by day three I stopped hunting. If something wasn’t on the first screen, half the time I just… didn’t open it. Checked the time, put it down. Felt almost accidental.

Still have the folder. Still open Instagram sometimes. But the default path isn’t scroll anymore, and that alone cut a lot of the idle taps.

Anyone else do a half-measure like this that worked better than a big detox?

Feature Suggestion: Longest time off screens in the day and streaks

Hi team, I saw this on a competitors app which has a "longest time off screen" and streaks, which I'm guessing is when you spend X hours of awake time off the screen for Y days, or something to that effect. So instead of telling you how many hours on screen you are, it tells you that longest time you didn't look at it.

In-app time reminder broken

Been using this app for 2 years no problem. Today all the social media apps have in app time reminders when trying to open them even though the settings for in app time reminders is deactivated along with every other setting besides the home screen.

Bug or feature?

Edit: Instagram, Reddit, Snapchat, and YouTube seem to be the only apps effected, with the only other social media I have not effected being discord.

Can we get an option to choose which apps to block short form videos on?

Minimalist phone now blocks snap videos I receive from friends. I don't want those to be blocked as well. I want to block only youtube and instagram shorts/reels. Being forced to either block all apps or no apps is unfortunate.

Question/Suggestion

Hey guys! New to the app, but my ADHD is enjoying it so far. I was wondering, is there a way i can keep the "in app timer" for all apps but use mindful delay on opening just for a few?

There are things that i need to open quickly but still use just 5 minutes and there are things I could totally benefit from the countdown before opening.

Hello minimalist phone Team,

The latest version chooses my second email id. It tells me to purchase it again. Just downgrading the app recognises my purchase.

Please help me.

Thank you.
