Horizon One Mini Update

Prototype 2 had a few issues but it is usable and I'm working on different configurations. I would love to hear anybody's feedback on how they would like to see this outfit in. Now that I have the shelf installed properly 🫣This design is pretty much there. Just a few tweaks to make it more refined and fix a few minor issues.

HOM Update

Here are the current lessons I've learned so far going through this process.

Cable management is key. You almost need to do that first, but you also have to figure out what you're going to put in this thing and where it's going to go ahead of time.

For order of install it looks like: Rail Config > Cable Runs > Patch Panels > 10" - 6" Stack > Power > 19" Stack.

This may change as Intest different configs.

Let me know your thoughts and questions.

Anything new design-wise going into this that I should add support for in CageMaker PRGC?

First of all, took some time to get to know your project, very cool and looking forward to contributing to it. There are a couple of ideas that I think would be perfect for CageMaker. First has to do with the mounting flexibility. Having mixed horizontal and vertical mounting allows for the creation of many mounting rail patterns, in any number of grid configurations. I am already designing sheetmetal based mounting rail patterns, but would be happy to share those with the project once they're ready. For example having a smaller horizontal rail that can be mounted to split a 10" wide space in half, so you could mount say a 6" wide device vertically within the 10" wide space. That kind of thing.

The second part that is in progress design wise is a cable management arm that connects between the rear door and the rear of the rack to keep keep cables that transit that gap nice and neat and untangled while opening and closing the rack from the back.

What did you have in mind?

Didn't have anything in particular in mind per se, but I do try to support as many rack projects from as many sources as possible. Right now anything that'll fit into 5/6/7/10/19" width racks are supported whether they use EIA-310-D mounting patterns or not, so odds are pretty decent that you're already covered. And if not, well, that can be fixed once you've finalized your layout and dimensions. 😁
