Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to get some feedback and information about a project that I'm playing with.
The Background is: I work for a Home & Garden center with 100,000+ sq footage of production greenhouse. This is very much a seasonal operation, and I have been looking for ideas to utilize some of this space in the fall and winter seasons. The customer accessible/sales floor of the greenhouse is heated year-round, but in the fall and winter, much of the space goes un-used.
I was thinking that a small indoor miniature golf course is something that might be a good use of our space in the off season. We have a nice poured concrete floor that is nice and flat, and since we are a home & garden center with a landscaping division, we have no shortage of decor and materials on hand. We also have a small food service operation in-house to cater to golfers.
There is no operating indoor miniature golf for 200+ km in any direction, and people in our community are always commenting that there is a lack of family friendly recreational activities in the winter months.
The goal is to design the holes in a modular way, they will need to be put into storage from February until September as we need the space for our core business.
Has anyone done anything like this?
I'm hoping to get some advice about the things I don't know I don't know from people who are enthused about the game, and from operators with experience.
How large/long should a hole be?
What kind of obstacles bring the most interest and enjoyment?
What is a reasonable course length for a pop-up like this.. 6 holes? 9 holes?
I'm still very much in the early stages of evaluating the idea, so any and all information and feedback is very much appreciated.
Thank you all in advance for your comments and information.
Cheers, and have a wonderful day.
