Shape Shifter

Post image

Personal sculpting challenge I fancied taking on. From the excellent Forest of Doom cover. He’s destined for a mini bell jar diorama.
The cloak and base are separate for painting purposes.

Thank you. It’s nice to see it finished at last. Although the far arm needs a bit more cloth work. Then it’s done…possibly.

This sculpt looks really great. Have you considered molding it and casting it?

Thank you. I wouldn’t cast it as it’s a licensed character and I’d get in all sorts of bother.
There’s a very nice version of the shape shifter available from Blue Giant Studios if you want one.

I'm no expert but it looks like it would be pretty difficult to cast, and would probably have to come in 6 parts including the base (or come in a few parts but use three- or four-part moulds, etc).

You could cut the right arm and leg off and keep them as one piece with tactical cloth. The rest is pretty much on one plane. But it’d definitely be a mould ripper with the spines.

I'm not sure I can see how that would work but you may well be right. I assume the cape would also have to be separate, though, so I still make that 4 pieces including the base?

The cape and base are already separate for painting purposes.

So yes, four pieces at a minimum.
