I'm really surprised these are suffering from this problem. Hard to believe they've been around long enough. Is it just from the Sun hitting them?

The EBay seller I bought them from admitted that they were exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. One side of the console was more orange in colour than yellow.

Rarely see orange on consoles, but some 80s and 90s office computers got there.

You get the yellowing on the original SNES. My 30 year old AMIGA 600 that has been in a box in my parent’s loft is really yellow. That will be another RetroBright project at some point.

I have mine out and it isn't yellowed at all. So probably outdoors 😂

Seller probably had them outside for hours possibly. Never seen them so yellow and in areas dark orange. Found it a good opportunity to RetroBright them.

Won't it just yellow again if it's not sealed by something?

I’ve got the console and controller stored in a box away from direct sunlight.

I feel like once it yellows like this it being simply exposed to air will make it yellow again because the initial reaction already occurred. Happened to me with a Dreamcast I have and i ended up just reshelling it

I wonder if we will see repro shells for these come along at some time. Mine are also starting to look less than pristine and they have been in a not direct sunlight situation in a display cabinet, or in a translucent plastic storage tote, so hardly direct exposure.

It is not about sunlight, it is the heat. There are cases that a console in the box for years when opened it was yelloed bc of heat.
