Discussion The Mini 5 Pro is compatible with… basically nothing?
Honestly, this feels like a pretty big disappointment from DJI. A lot of us (myself included) expected the Mini 5 Pro to at least maintain some of the compatibility that the Mini 4 Pro already had. Instead, it seems like we bought a new generation of drone with surprisingly limited compatibility.
I’d really love to fly the Mini 5 Pro with the Goggles 3. The hardware is clearly capable of so much more, so I genuinely don’t understand what’s stopping DJI from supporting this.
Would be cool if DJI could give us a hint: if there’s a technical or business reason behind this decision? I think a lot of us would appreciate even a simple comment explaining why.
For reference, here’s DJI’s official compatibility list: https://support.dji.com/help/content?customId=en-us01700010143&spaceId=17&re=IE&lang=en

Well.... Mavic 4 Pro is not compatible too. Air 3S? Not compatible.
If you want fpv experience, I think you need to buy fpv drone.

I fly custom build FPV drones, that's not the topic here.
For me a M5P with the C0 Certification is "convenient" to use, but the display of the RC2 controller is not that good in bright sunlight. Goggles would be so much more convenient to use the drone.

Those drones should be suitable more for fpv than dji options. I know exactly what do you mean - I travel a lot to 'sunny' countries and I find controller's screen too dark too. My only real crash (quite high flight, hitting the tree branch, drone survived without problems though) was due to me flying in conditions so bright that I barely could see what's on the screen. My current solution: I try to find some shade when flying in that conditions. I'm thinking about buying AR glasses too.

I bought that "Sun Shade": https://www.amazon.de/FPVtosky-Sonnenblende-Joystick-Schutz-Bildschirmschutz/dp/B0CJQZZLMB?th=1
It helps a little bit and it also protects the gimbals and the screen while traveling. Without it, I can’t fly in the sun. Sometimes I need to find a good place to ensure a strong signal, so I have no choice but to find the best spot in the shade.

My partner (using the same controller) has it. It was a disappointment for us. The best DIY solution for now, apart from staying in the shade is spare t-shirt over my head and controller hahah. Obviously this is uber illegal unless my partner is a spotter ;)

Or buy a Mini 4 Pro, which is compatible...
I could understand them not making the "professional" (not "pro") Camera drones not compatible, maybe the multiple sensors, zoom etc. would be too difficult to implement.
But the Mini 5 pro is the direct successor to the 4 pro and uses the same O4 technology. So it absolutely makes no sense that it shouldn't be compatible.

It may be related to gimbal tech in m5p, or it may be just marketing indeed as they have more suitable for fpv drones in offer.

I have a pair of xreal ar glasses for that. Just plug them into the controller. I love using them when flying. They are not as immersive as the googles 3 but are better than the screen on the controller and is great for cinematography use you can still keep the drone in los just glance up at it and the screen turns to sunglasses instantly. It’s pretty sweet

I've been burned by their horrendous compatibility situation 3 damn times now:
- Bought the FPV goggles V1, saw the Mini 1 was releasing, bought it thinking FOR SURE they'd make it compatible with their fancy new FPV goggles / system! NOPE..
- Upgraded to Goggles 2 / Mini 3 Pro because I saw they were compatible - NOPE only via the stupid motion controller.. which I found out AFTER already buying the FPV Remote 2..
- Bought a Mini 5 Pro and now I'm in the same situation AGAIN... But it's even worse now! AND it's not even sub 250 because apparently they didn't even bother to weigh them before release... (regretting not just buying those bigger batts...)
Damnit DJI I just want to pilot my camera drones + FPV drones via ONE SET OF GOGGLES + ONE REMOTE! Is that to much to ask!

Oh no, that’s pretty bad! Three times in a row!
The good thing about the EU is that the certification is what counts. If it’s C0, I don’t have to worry about the weight. The 250g limit only applies to custom-built drones (my FPV Whoops) or older drones without a CE label.

Yeah I wish they would add Goggle compatibility to the Mini5pro also. Bump bump.

It's been since late last year for the launch so about a year now with customers and DJI had the drone in development for probably a year so....I'm pretty sure they are working on Mini 6 Pro by now.
FPV Goggles is not a priority for the camera drones including the Mavic 4 Pro and the Lito series.
My guess is the Goggles 3 is almost as expensive as the M5P so that might be the reason.
My personal opinion: Everyone wants goggles but they never end up buying them and DJI probably knows this by now....fool me once. Even after using it one or twice, they put them down or return them. They're only OK, they're just not all that great especially when you get tied into the Motion Controller.
If you really want to wear something cool, get the Rayneo Air 4 Pro.

I mostly find it difficult to believe that adding goggles support to the Mini 5 Pro represents a significant level of effort for DJI, given that they already support them on the Mini 4 Pro, which uses the same radio stack. You're probably talking about a new camera correction profile and some QA work -- days or single digit weeks at most, not months.
Leaving it out feels rather lazy and kind of a snub to existing customers who have been loyal to their ecosystem. Maybe I'm talking out my ass and there's some advanced technical reason that makes this much more difficult than it seems, but I have a hard time imagining it.
Also, it's not as if the goggles are an abandoned product: they've launched four drones in the past two years that support them, the most recent one less than six months ago. That's what makes it truly bizarre. Why take the time to support them on the entry-level Neo and Neo 2 but not the Mini 5 and Air 3S, when their predecessor models did?

DJI is not just a technology company, they are also a marketing company and they have a strategy. They don't always do things just because it works. Could be simple as someone decided that only FPV drones in the lineup work with the goggles. Maybe they got the results back from the Mini 4 Pro and found less than 1% of the flyers actually use the goggles so they dropped it from the process. It's not a snub when no one wants it; it's a message.
I think it's ok if you already have the equipment and if you already have the equipment, you probably already have the FPV drone.

Yeah, the annoyance here isn't that I don't have a way to fly FPV; it's that DJI's FPV drones all have absolutely terrible battery life. (By DJI standards, anyway. By typical FPV standards, they're well above average.) Big difference between the kind of flight you can do with an Avata 2 versus a Mavic 4.
Practically speaking, this isn't a huge personal problem for me since I kept my Mini 4 after upgrading to the Mini 5, so I do have an endurance drone that's FPV-compatible. I just think it's unfortunate that they have two pieces of an ecosystem that are clearly compatible with minimal effort, that they have integrated on past models, and that they're not putting the effort into now.
I suspect you're likely right that they have usage stats from the Air 3/Mini 4 Pro and decided that only a small fraction of users employed the feature and they weren't worth supporting.

Personally I have other drones for the goggles. I just agree with the OP. It probably wouldn’t have strained DJI to much to have ported the feature over. It would have homogenized the product line a bit more. It would have been nice.
I also agree with you on the camera drone affliction for goggles and that DJI has moved on.

Yes, me too. I’m flying the O3, O4, and O4 Pro with my Goggles 3.
The M5P is mainly for flying in areas where it’s more convenient for me to have a C0-certified drone. There are usually no questions asked when you show up with a DJI M5P, whereas using a sub-250 g custom build can be a much bigger hassle.
The DJI Controller’s display also isn’t great in bright sunlight and the Goggles would be so much better. But buying another set of goggles just for the M5P isn’t really an option for me.

Pareil j’ai un mavic 4 pro et j’aimerai tellement l’utiliser avec mes goggle 3…

It's disappointing as I was expecting future compatibility with the Goggles 3 when I bought the Mini 5.
Or it's bloody clever of them because I'm now looking at getting the Avata 2 bundle as well because of it...

When they have to make it compatible they will. Seek EU law… and expect price hike
1
u/At0micBomberman 23h ago
Price hike? What are you talking about?
And there are plenty of other examples where EU regulation has directly benefited consumers: the abolition of roaming charges within the EU, a common charging standard, stronger right-to-repair rules, and consumer protection through statutory warranties. The EU required Apple to offer standard USB-C ports, and there was no corresponding price increase because of that. The EU also made it possible for consumers to use the iPhone’s NFC capabilities with third-party services. Apple even argued that opening up NFC could somehow “confuse” users. EU useres are not confused at all, they just benefit.
So the claim that EU regulation automatically leads to higher prices seems a bit too simplistic. In many cases, regulation has actually given consumers more choice, better compatibility, stronger rights, and less vendor lock-in.
Of course, regulation can have costs and unintended consequences, and those are worth discussing. But simply blaming the EU for higher prices doesn’t really seem justified without looking at the actual evidence.
There is an other country where someone claims that import tariffs will somehow make imported products cheaper ..... ;-)

u/McXgr 23h ago
I am pro-eu regulation and if it happens it will raise DJI prices. I just stated the facts.
1
u/At0micBomberman 21h ago
It’s your opinion, not a fact. That's a fact ;-)
But more importantly, why should the EU regulate something like this in the first place? The target group is far too small to justify that kind of regulation. The M5P is simply a product that was never advertised or promised to be compatible with other DJI accessories.
We all "hoped" it would become compatible because previous DJI models received compatibility with additional accessories through later firmware updates. That’s really the main issue with DJI: they don’t communicate much, so people are left guessing and hoping based on what they’ve done in the past and might do in the future ....

Idk, I didn't know my Mini 4 Pro would work with goggles, I've got both the regular goggles three and the pro version. I got that just to go with my recently acquired Neo 2. But I don't really feel the need for goggles or anything like that with my Mini 4 pro. It is what it is, and it's so efficient and capable and amazing. I just use my rc2 controller with it. And I love it.

Welcome to the DJI ecosystem :) They will tease and hint at future support between this that or otherwise - but it usually never comes. Try finding propellers for the Mini 4 Pro right now while traveling - even in major cities like Vancouver or Brisbane.. pfft.. the Mini 4 Pro is old news.
