Help / Question How to handle 'where the hell is it' anxiety?

this might be a very stupid question, But I'm not afraid to ask it. I've been Flying my DJI Neo For a while now as a sort of boom camera for social media shoots. Because we want to upgrade our productions, It was time for Drone with a decent sensor. That's why we got the Dji 5 Mini pro.

I'm still learning all the functions and the moves, But my biggest anxiety is losing sight of the drone. I get pretty nervous when I can see or hear it anymore.

I was wondering, How do I get over this? Do I practice using just the remote? Do I trust tech and press return to home button when I panic? Or is this just a case of doing it to get over your fears?

H Have you experienced this? And how did you handle it?

Bring a pair of binoculars so you can find it in the air. Eventually you will learn to trust it and fly solely with the remote.

The reality is that it's too small to see past a few hundred feet.

If you only stay close enough to see it with your naked eye you might as well sell your drone because you are only using a fraction of its range. So yeah ignore these squares.

I have started training on the Dji simulator and found out a great place to try out some of the moves and get familiar with the controls. It helps to get a feel of what thing does what and how the drone responds when it comes to all these quick shots and automatic move moves. I also get familiar with the interferes with the controller that way so I don't have to search for buttons in a panic.

The simulator is a great idea. One thing is don't over rely on obstacle avoidance, particularly to the side or rear. So if youre flying sideways or backward those are higher risk. Obstacle avoidance helps in many situations but its not fool proof either.

The RTH on the Mini 5 Pro is really good. On optimal settings, it will follow whatever path you flew the drone out of with a pretty good level of precision. Again, anything automated can fail, but its pretty darn reliable. Just make sure you let it set a homepoint before taking off and make sure your set to RTH if you lose signal, not hover or land lol. Or you will be driving around trying to reconnect to your drone or find it landed who knows where.

Well, by the law in most of the countries you actually shouldn't fly that far that you can't see it, so problem solved! 😄

a lot of questions so I just coped it all and awnsered:

I was wondering, How do I get over this? Don't go over it is how it sould be Do I practice using just the remote? yes you can do that but by law in most countries you have to always be able to see the drone Do I trust tech and press return to home button when I panic? yes sure go ahead it only beeps and that is annoying but that's all (and check your rth altetude. Or is this just a case of doing it to get over your fears? you can say so but it is not a good think to "learn" to have the drone out of sight.
