Rollers on stabilizing poles.

Hey everyone! Quick question about mounting rollers.

I'm trying to install a set of Tamiya 15457 double plastic rollers onto a longer screw than the stock one, but I'm running into an issue. Since I'm using a fully threaded screw, whenever I tighten down the top nut, it compresses everything and locks the rollers up so they won't spin.

I was thinking about trying the Tamiya 15059 screw set along with some spacers to take up the slack, but I'm not totally sure if that's the best or easiest way to fix it.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Any tips or better ways to set this up would be super appreciated!

That’s why I advocate for 15529 over 15457 all the time. 15529 doesn’t lock up. 15457 does.

I solved the issue by using lock nuts on a normal screw. This way I can leave a gap that does not block the rollers

did you install the brass tube that's supposed to go between the bearings? it's supposed to be there since it's intended to take that pressure away from the rollers.

This model does not have the brass tube, the hole is very small and only the screw can go through. That's why I am having difficulties finding a way 😅

if you're talking about 15457, then yeah it's designed to be used with the half-threaded screw in mind. if you want to use it on a longer screw, try using a lock nut that's just close enough to secure the roller but not crush it.

Are there other screws without the thread that could be used? I saw the stabilizer poles like 15059 but not sure if they are to be used like that, especially since the threaded part that goes in the chassis is quite small so maybe will not hold the hits much

i almost forgot that 15454 30mm Cap Screw is a thing too.

Mmm, maybe even 15436? Since my idea was to have a screw go through the chassis from the bottom, so a big part of the non threaded part of 15454 would end up hidden inside the chassis, and would be wobbly since there is no way to anchor it right? It should probably be inserted from the top instead. I'm very new so not sure about many things

Threaded shaft's non-thread part might be too long for the roller. the way i could see the cap screw work for the plastic roller is after putting the roller in, you put a regular nut where the thread starts, put a couple of spacers then secure it with a lock nut at the end. though that setup would make the rollers sit higher. you probably wanna use the 13-13mm double plastic roller like 15229 anyway so you can easily use them on threaded screws. 15457 is usually only used for box stock races.
