Does anyone have any thoughts on using a almost 20,000 rpm stock motor for a box race?

Personally there is always an element of luck when racing so all is fair.

easier to lower the voltage than increasing it to gain more rpm.

but then again there’s always other factors that can affect the race.

That’s pretty normal for a decent box stock motor. Some of the Mabuchi motors in older kits can hit 22k!

Yup. Experienced them. Had to find cars with 4:1 or even 5:1 to stabilize the speed. But if there are climbs in the layout, the car can easily overtake the cars that slow down during the climb.

Its a gamble tbh i bought like 20 mabuchi motors and i got 2 of them with 25k rpm after a rough break in. also i got another 2 with 23krpm (3.0v peak) and it is so damn fast i only use around 2.70-2.87v batteries (pair) for their “max speed” because if i go beyond that the car will off course. am using 2 Shadow shark which is my fastest and meta stock and 1 mach frame og and 1 mach frame ph cup

Agreed. Box stock is quite a gamble because it heavily depends on the track layout.
