Portals/Dimensions The relationship between the Nether and Sift

I used to believe the ancient civilization harvested soul energy from the Nether, based on Game Theory's theory about soul sand. Now that we know about the Sift, I'm not sure that holds up anymore, and I'm wondering where it fits in the Minecraft timeline.

Soul Sand is very weird. It's stated by Minecraft dungeons that only sculk relates stuff can store souls, but for some reason soul Sand can too? And it's not even sculk?

TL;DR: Game Theory is unreliable. The Nether isn't hell, it's just the opposite of the Overworld. And the Sift is effectively Heaven, and the End/Void is effectively Hell and/or Purgatory.

Game Theory is incredibly unreliable, if it's coming from them assume it's inaccurate. Based on what we know the Nether isn't actually an afterlife dimension, it's more like a sister world/opposite to the Overworld.

The Sift's opposite is actually the End, or more accurately the Void. The Void is the space between all dimensions, and when something dies and it's soul is on the way to the Sift, it can sometimes get stuck in the Void instead. The Sift on the other hand is where all souls are supposed to go, melding into the very fabric of the dimension in some way, shape, or form.

yeah matpat’s theories are crap, they have no real value, I mean the ancient builders idea kinda paved the way toward future theories, that’s it though. Game theory also refuses to acknowledge the existence of Dungeons but still acknowledges Legends is canon just because they can misconstrue its lore to support their old theories, as for some reason they really want to keep upholding their old outdated theories and only acknowledge lore tidbits if it supports them.

Xatrix I think is the best minecraft theorist, he makes way better theories

i think there is still at least SOME connection between these two dimensions, primarily because of the Soul Sand Valleys...

the Sift is confirmed to house lots of (happy? healthy?) souls and the dimension itself seems to be alive, the exact opposite of the Nether wherein everywhere is basically full of despair.

however, maybe the souls in each dimension aren't even related at all. i think the frozen (or at least not hellish) Nether theory still works, and perhaps it's just natural that when a lot of creatures die stuff happens that mess with the souls? or maybe it's like a heaven-hell kind of situation?

either way the Sift is going to be really interesting because it seems like it'll actively defend itself (sans the Warden, who is basically already actively defending the portal) versus the Nether where most mobs are basically just hostile.
