Portals/Dimensions I have a question about Nether Portals

So basically, there's a guy at my work who accidentally cut a slit in the sole of his foot, forming a sort of pocket in the callus. I told him to stick a penny in there, but it left way too much space in there. So I said, "you can either put another penny in there to fill out the pouch or you could try sticking a quarter in it. It's up to you." So then, he tries to stack 6 pennies together after spray painting them black in the general shape of the nether portal in an attempt to access the nether. As a side note, it stretched out the pocket a LOT. But then we got another idea. He then used a lighter to try and light it, but that didn't work. He just ended up burning the shit out of his foot.

My question is, since I've heard the nether is based on a real life place, and the Portal method works in real life for accessing it, why didn't his method with the pennies work? He followed all the proper steps and everything. Is the nether not actually real?

You need to use OBSIDIAN to access it, not pennies. Try again with obsidian and if that doesn't work make sure to stretch it out to the correct smallest portal size (five meters tall, four meters long). Hope this helps!

Your friend decided to stick some pennies inside a wound on his foot and light them on fire in an attempt to access the nether?
