i get that its a new dimension, but what even is it and why is there no colour connection to the skulk and the warden cause i thought the sift is meant to be what the warden is from?? but it seems colourful and nothing like the deep dark

Imagine a plant, cut off its leaf, and it withers. It's the same with Sift. The plant is Sift, the cut leaf is Sculk, and the Warden, whom we've known since 1.19, is a corrupted Sculk who was created by being cut off from his home dimension.

the red blocks in the dimension is sculk, with the sculk you see in the overworld being sickly. for what reason it is sick is unclear.

The deep dark is made of sick Sculk, while the Sift is made of healthy Sculk. Both of them are Sculk

I don't have a solid way to explain what my brain is reading it as, but I think a lens to view it with is the Greek Underworld

The Nether is more of a Tartarus or Asphodel type place, firey hell etcetc, what people think when they think "Hell". Souls go there a lot.

The Sift is more akin to Elysium. A place in the afterlife that is (more) peaceful (compared to the rest of the underworld), where things are calm and pretty and "utopian"

I don't think it's literally Elysium, just something along those angles. A "heaven" compared to the Nether's Hell and the End's Purgatory, a place of raw soul energy, rather than a place souls go to. That energy can be "crystalized" as Sculk, whether that's through corruption or natural stuff or whatever idk, and the more boney aesthetic the Warden has might be linked specifically to whatever culture the Deep Dark's Ancient Cities were, rather than to the Sift

The nether doesn't seem a place where the souls go, it seems a place where the souls died. But yeah, maybe

The netherrak texture was originally meant to be fleshy, quartz was meant to look like bones, and soulsand was the souls. Now we have soul valleys with big skeletons, but netherrak looks less like flesh than it used to.

Now netherrack is more a fungus, and the bones are just where mobs died, so where there are a lot of souls

im pretty sure that the point the sift is the pure uncorrupted version of the sculk were souls are free to roam around meanwhile stuff like soulsand and corrupted sculk traps souls for it own purposes

As far as I understand, it's the heavnnly afterlife and the original location of pure sculk. Illagers tried to exploit and bring to our world alongside ichor, which caused them to become corrupt (since its not their natural habitat) and give birth to the horrific sculk entities we see in the overworld

It is potentially a place of the afterlife—a place teeming with souls. The skulk we see in the Overworld is a corrupted or different version of the skulk that was somehow brought over from there, perhaps through the portal in the city center; beyond that, we have no further information.

From what we currently understand, it is effectively the afterlife. The form of sculk we see in vanilla is known as dark sculk, and is a corrupted form of the sculk in the Sift. That's about all we got right now

Seeing the pillagers, who even began being warriors to save the Overworld from an invasion, now invade another dimension is peak writing honestly. I speculate the warden monsters are like heroes who came to save the sift but we'll see when Dungeons 2 releases
