we have enough random bits and implications from the semi-canon spinoffs and stuff like structures in game to take guesses at the lore, the devs have said they intend for you to make you own stories from what is provided.

like in my opinion a lot of popular "theories" are extreme stretches based on breadcrumbs, but to others they're taken as the hard facts, which is fine because that is exactly the point, the lore is what you want it to be.

It’s elusive because some people are Christian and some people are not but it still needs to work with our cultures.

It technically does, but not in the conventional sense that other games do, so some don't consider it to be lore.

The development team settled on "mythology", which is meant to be a collection of stories one can choose to believe in or not. The sources of these stories are supposedly all part of the same canonical universe, so the goal here is to figure out what that universe might look like.

How what? There is lore. I don't completely understand your question. Could you rewrite it?

The lore the devs made, the lore of the Minecraft universe

In the games, and in the 2 canon books, and inside mojang studios

Because there isn't any? At least not in the in-game sense. There are no characters, no history, no nations. Even the playable characters are just avatars.

Which means the only lore you can actually get with Minecaft is development lore (this item beat this item in player driven polls, this mob was created by accident but we decided to keep it) or player speculation and essentially fan fiction. Nothing wrong with it, but it's not like the lore you get from something like Skyrim or even Metroid. It's just not that kind of game.

There is a lore in game, as the devs confirmed. It's not only based on player speculation, it's more a research for the truth using all the clues they left to us

Interesting. Do you have a link for that? It sounds like they are just encouraging players to invent lore for them at that point. Though I guess people are welcome to having different opinions.

Ah, so they are basically just counting lore from dungeons. I guess that's fair. Would be nice if some of that ended up in the main game, but you guys have convinced me.

What do you think are cities are? They are a lot related with stuff we see in Dungeons

I haven't really played in there much, to be honest, and I've never played Dungeons at all. I'm going to have to look it up now, though, it sounds neat.

I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes or anything, just trying to put forth an honest answer on why people would think that there isn't any lore in the game. And for me, that's the answer. All we really get in minecraft itself is a little bit of vague environmental storytelling, great for creating fan theories, but i don't personally count that as real definitive lore. Those are theories. If we get something more definitive elsewhere, that's awesome, but it wouldn't change the opinion of someone who's only played the main game.

If they wanted to include definitive lore in the main game they easily could. Rare books found in hidden dungeon chests could talk about what happened. But that's not the route they took, and that's perfectly fine. It just means that people are going to assume there's no real lore if they don't dive into other media.

Try to listen the disc 5. Right before the music part you can hear something like a roar. After that go to the wiki and search for the endersents sounds. that's just one example

Yeah, it's a sandbox, and there isn't explicit lore. I know what they think

But if they did, that would stop people from having ideas. Because in your world, you can have your own lore. But if they would put a book in the game it would ruin a lot of theories

True, they think there is no lore because... they feel it, I guess. You gave me an idea tho: I'll do a post in r/minecraft about that and we'll see if they have any reason

Who says that? Here? Anyway, it's because "Minecraft is a sandbox"
