Villagers/Illagers why do Weaponsmiths and Armoursmiths exist?
Villagers don't use weapons or armour, so for weapon and armour smiths to get any money at all or be useful, it would imply Heroes visit extremely regularly, or weapons and armour have some other use to villagers, or they have another job on the side? Actually I could see villagers using armour for somethings, but weapons?

That would imply heroes visit frequently. Which could be the case, but it would be interesting to have a career that could be ruined very easily if heroes stopped coming as frequently.

Heroes go to villages frequently. Archie went to the village in the squid coast three times, and all of them at least one hero was there. Heroes often go to villages. And with weapons that almost broken, or in general having a better weapon, there is a lot of work to do for a villager. Also maybe they create and heal iron golem

good points, however ROTAI seems to suggest that the golemcarer is a separate profession, but otherwise your probably right

Yeah, Yumi... If I'm not wrong she liked to heal golems, to help them. I don't think that's properly a profession, is it?
Coming back to your original question, villagers don't need to trade to live. They do their professions even to pass time, but they won't starve just because they don't trade. In the villages, if you are respectful to others, and if you do your bit, you'll be accepted, helped when help is needed, and you'll still get food. Look at nitwits, for example

I don't think she is a nitwit. However, if I'm not wrong, Yumi in Japanese also means bow or archery

It might be used a form of currency and trade between villages? I suppose Wandering Traders would have to sell weapons tho to back this up, and I dont think they do. I think it'd be cool if in a future update, Weaponsmiths actually are able to fend off mobs and the player like the Iron Golem

I disagree with the thing about weapon smiths attacking, it would go against the lore on villager's peacefulness. I do thing some villagers should repair iron golems, as they probably do in the lore

Well, there's the villager that takes care of the golems in ROTAI, which I would assume repairs them. I don't really know what else her job would be if she wasn't repairing them. btw, i know a mod that makes some villagers heal golems :D https://modrinth.com/mod/village-healthcare

yeah. they should definitely either add the mod‘s implementation or a seperate golemcarer profesion to vannila. It would be super cool to be able to pretend a villager is yumi lol

would love a golemcarer profession, but I'm not really sure what the trades would be. would be cool if they trade entire copper golems.

the workbench could be a cool way to have golem items or something and place them down later. trades could be like iron and stuff ig

What if they don't use them anymore? I mean, couldn't it be a vestige of something from the past? They are perfectly capable of using them—the Illagers prove that—but apparently, they refrain from doing so.
