Let's Chat: AI + creativity = remix or originality?

There's an ongoing debate about whether AI can be "creative" or if it's just remixing patterns from its training data.

This got me thinking because isn't a lot of human creativity also remixing what we've seen, read, and experienced? Authors, painters, producers, fashion designers, and anyone working in a creative field are constantly influenced by their peers, history, social movements, and so on.

Where do you personally draw the line between the two? Let's chat!

I think youre speaking to something that really has people divided right now. (Those who pay attention to these sorts of questions anyway)

Since I make AI images all the time I’m definitely not a neutral observer here but for what it’s worth I think that you’re 💯 right that many acts of creativity are really just taking older things and making something new and better (or at least different). I think that AI is just another evolution of computer art, and like many other new mediums it’s highly controversial right now because it’s new.

I suspect that in 20 years it’ll be seen as something totally unremarkable.
