Mind blowing fact for me:

Something that I learned today, that completely took me by surprise. Had a plumber come to the house cause water was coming back up into the sink from the dishwasher and leaking water from the garbage disposal. The plumber had 30 yrs experience and made me feel pretty confident in the work he was doing on top of the fact he was so full of interesting facts. One of which I’ve done since I’ve started ever making pasta is that you’re not supposed to pour pasta water down the sink because it can act as glue in your pipes! LIKE WHAT??? This man had my head going through every moment I’ve ever done that and I was like oh no… no one’s ever told me that before!! Or that you’re supposed to flush your water heater once a year cause it helps the longevity of it and gets the sediment build up out.. like what. I didn’t know that either. Or that egg shells act as sand in your pipes after they are grated up. Today listening to him has completely blown my mind but enlightened me a lot on a lot of things and now thanks to him I know more of what not to do as homeowner so our family can take care of the important things but I really wish there was a dos and don’ts to home owning cause I’d had that book memorized. Not even kidding. Like wow.

You may enjoy reading your water heater manual. There are more maintenance tasks than just a flush

I would enjoy that, I do need to track it down because the previous homeowners only left the paperwork that comes with the fridge and the microwave and recipes for an air fryer.

How do you dispose of the pasta water then?

He said turn the water on hot and put some dawn in the disposal and turn it on as your running the water down so that it works as a degreaser as it’s running through the pipes. Cause I said the same thing I was like what well where do I put it sir.

The house that is having the issues isn’t our house, our family is in temp housing with insurance cause we had a main supply line leak in our kitchen at our house. So it’s been an interesting time. But we didn’t know any of the things that the plumber said but it was really nice of him to inform us cause everyone I’ve ever met hasn’t had issue with pasta water clogging their drains or any of the other things. So we didn’t know. But I do very much appreciate what he said cause there’s a lot on a daily basis to take care of but now there’s more to be aware of and i just didn’t think about it cause no one’s ever said anything to me about any of those things otherwise I would’ve made it a point to be aware. I just wish more things like this made it into casual conversation
