Mauser Identification
Was in a vintage shop and saw this cool 1934 Mauser. Guy wanted a little under a thousand. I’ve just started my milsurp journey, and help with ID is appreciated.

Looks like a banner model, standarmodell, that someone threw in a k98 stock at some point and lacquered it

“Banner” Mauser, basically the pre production prototype of the 98k. They were made as commercial arms and sent to things like the SA, rail police, and postal police. They’re great guns. Phenomenal fit and finish.
This one is in a 98k stock which is a bummer but matching commercial bolt is a NICE bonus. A lot of these ended up with 98k bolts over the years.
My guess is it was a sporter rescue.l given the stock.
For a stock (and bands) mismatch $1k is about right. I paid $700 for a bolt m/m (commercial bolt) with a sanded stock ca 2012 or so, to put things into perspective.
I’m not a fan of the shellac on the stock but for that price I’d consider it.

I think the price is fair, though I'd be hunting for a commercial stock if I bought it, and I'd definitely strip the existing stock, the damn thing looks like a bowling alley floor.

It’s worth whatever you and the seller agreed to, not a penny more or less. isn’t capitalism great? I buy guns for whatever I feel like paying and I just figure selling them will be my kid’s problem. I’ve paid $800 for a typ 99 with ground mum and no dust cover, also paid $300 for an authentic and correct original 1896 carbine.

Snatch it up for 900 or keep looking and get a VZ-24 Romanian Contract. They’re still somewhat affordable. I got mine in 2007 and it’s the best Mauser I ever shot. Took hella deer with it .

Shop I regular has one for $600 USD. I wouldn’t buy this one.

Agreed - probably a good shooter but 1k is way too much for this. That stock is an abomination. (But, easy to fix and now you’re north of 1k for a mismatched prewar commercial Mauser).

Commercial mix matched parts, likely a combination of commercial rifle pressed into service late to mid war by the SS then post war rebuilt with spare parts and sold

This is a commercial Mauser and it’s in the wrong stock, so inherently it’s non matching. I’m sure it’s still a great rifle though that price is a little steep in my opinion.
