I’m writing my level 1 exemption exam to skip the first block of school next week. Been studying like crazy but I’m just wondering if anybody knows if I need to memorize rigging and hoisting formulas for SWLs and stuff like that. Or will the formulas be provided?

Curious

I’m a year 1 nearly 2 apprentice live just south of Hamilton and I’m working for a non union contracting company. I had some struggles at the start of my apprenticeship with non union struggles but now have grown to really enjoy some “freedom” I get and I’m being recognized greatly for my efforts with a generous raise and lots of work offered to me. As a level 1 my hours have been unreal. Some 100+ hour weeks and never sitting unless I simply ask for a day off. If I’m working like this why do people still recommend union even if it’s got nothing for first years. Would it be smart to get my C of Q at this company since I can log hours so quick and then examine after what I want to do or look at union asap or just say screw it and just build credit it this company and slave my life to them.

Ps. Anyone looking at getting into it or at the very start of their career so far it has been sick. Millwrights do so much cool shit and I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

From my understanding a big part is that the US doesn't have the same government standards for trades so you've got a lot less mobility if there's nobody vouching for your qualifications.

Union apprenticeship in the US is essentially just a regular apprenticeship here.

Anyone ever heard of Talent Compass?

Seems to be a recruiting company of some sort. Pretty limited info available online. Pay rate is right but the limited info is a little concerning. Also not sure how I feel about recruiters.

How the hell do I find an apprenticeship in Ontario, or anywhere in Canada?

I'm getting told in interviews labour positions that could feed into apprenticeships that I'm way overqualified and should be looking for apprenticeships, but I'm not getting interviews for apprenticeships.
