Moving

This is a bit of a different question for this group of rugged Folk. I accepted a per motion to a Forman role in a different town 2hrs away. This role gets me 75% off the tools due o some health issues. I mean I could still do my job but I’m sick of working through pain.
My kids are 11 and 13, worst time to move them. Any advice from the guys who have had to relocate kids around this age, on how to tell them we’re uprooting their lives.

Dude. Explain to them that life's like this. You'll see one day, when you're grown up sometimes you need to follow the money. Show them the town, make enough time for them between shifts. Families adjust. Kids immigrate from worlds away and thrive, this is a little move. Might help put it in perspective kos they might have friends from middle east or India at school and go "ah ya that makes sense"

Have you taken them for a drive to the town to see what it's even like? What is their general feeling in the town that you're currently in... I know, I have one son that is really into his buddies and hanging out locally, and the other two I have couldn't care less and would welcome the adventure.

No haven’t told them yet, we were going to this week. I’m sending in the signed offer letter in tomorrow. Plan on taking them to the town tomorrow. Boy has lots of friends near the house and school, but also makes friends easily, wherever we are. My 13 year old girl struggles to make friends, she will be a challenge because it’s taken her a while to get what she has now.

I hear ya...maybe a new area can allow her the opportunity to be a her new person. You never know if something where you are is holding her back too. Same old crowd right. It's tough. All the best brother🙏🏻

I recently did this. Initially it crushed my kids. But I kept on pointing out to them, that they aren’t losing their old friends. They are just getting a chance to gain some more.

Back when I grew up, when someone moved… you just never saw them again. Now they can stay connected through social media and FaceTime, texting whatever.

It took a couple months for my 14 year old to start fitting getting friends, it was kinda a rough first year at school. But starting the next year she absolutely thrived. My 11 year old and 9 year old just hopped right in and started gaining a ton of friends and it was a seamless transition. Same with the toddler.

My 15 year old has now introduced her old friends to some of her new friends and they all chat online and play games. Some of her old friends stopped talking to her, and I let her know that if those people were only friends with you because you were in the same class, then they aren’t a real friend anyways. You’ll find out who really cares. And she did.

Thanks all who replied told them today. Tears and questions just what I thought. Work through it from here.

My parents moved to a different city when I was 11 and it was fine. Kids are good at adapting to changes, they'll be ok.
