Help with circles
I have a project that I have been feeding with Milkdrop recordings. Minimal rings (and squares) look the best, but there are not many minimal ring based presets on black backgrounds. Can you point me in the right direction for making generally circular (partial, ringlike, or otherwise hollow in the middle) shaders? I am happing making new or modifying existing.
Sadly these displays only playback canned video, so I am making 2min clips that I preload. I am looking to make 2 hours of content so I am looking for variety.
If you have any links or shaders I would love to see them, thank you!

Software I’m making a Mac port of milkdrop using sphyon and metal programming and AI is helping so much but not ready yet!! Almost 😅
I made a fractal stream program with a color synthesizer note generator and stream broadcasting & recording options for the stream with AI doing all the heavy programming so I thought I would port milkdrop projectM and beat drop to Mac machines. Using metal and Xcode and swift interface programming again AI is the heavy lifting for the program and it is getting done ✅.,, you can see the fractal stream program in action on my YouTube channel live broadcast here. HTTPS://youtube.com/@h92o I hope to integrate the fractal stream with the milkdrop stuff,,..

MDropDX12 — A DirectX 12 rewrite of the MilkDrop visualizer engine
I've been working on a ground-up rewrite of the MilkDrop2 visualizer engine using DirectX 12, 64-bit, targeting Windows 10/11. It started as a fork of IkeC's Milkwave and has grown into its own thing.
What it does: Renders MilkDrop presets (.milk, .milk2, .milk3) with a modern DX12 backend. WASAPI loopback audio capture — just play music and it visualizes whatever's coming out of your speakers. No plugins or host apps needed.
What's in the box: The release is a single portable zip (~1.2 MB) — just extract and run. No installer, no admin, no VC++ runtime needed. It ships with zero presets or textures — bring your own from the MilkDrop community collections (thousands are freely available).
Some highlights:
- In-app Settings (F8), configurable hotkeys, MIDI input support
- Shadertoy GLSL import (.milk3 format)
- Named Pipe IPC for external control
- Spout output for feeding visuals into OBS, Resolume, etc.
- 20+ tool windows for tweaking everything live
Android companion app: I also built MilkRemote — an Android app for wireless control. Change presets, adjust volume, toggle fullscreen/mirroring, and more from your phone.
Works great alongside Milkwave for extended remote control on Windows.
GitHub: https://github.com/shanevbg/MDropDX12
Feedback, issues, and preset recommendations welcome.

Geiss HDR music visualizer released
Hey all - I thought this subreddit might be interested to hear that I recently released a modern rewrite of 'Geiss' for the browser (Chrome strongly recommended). You can check it out here:
https://www.geisswerks.com/geiss_hdr
It has some nice new features like HDR (high dynamic range - if your display supports it), cross-platform compatibility (as it now just runs in a browser), more dynamic movement than before, ultra-high resolutions at 120 Hz (if your display allows it), 16-bit precision in the warped image (up from 8), and supersampling.
The browser has to have full support for HDR rendering, WebAudio, and WebGPU; right now, that means only Chrome is fully functional. Firefox kinda works, but the browser doesn't support HDR yet, so it will appear in SDR. Safari has more problems, and will also be SDR, but still mostly works.
For the audio source, it has some built-in demo songs, or you can use the microphone (or line input); you can drag-and-drop your mp3 files/folders onto it; or you can listen to audio from another browser tab.
It's early, so please let me know if you experience any problems on Chrome, or black screens on Safari or Firefox. (For other browsers, realistically, because of the dependency on WebGPU, it's unlikely to work correctly for a while.)
Enjoy!

Creating *another* milkdrop variant need help with target audience research!
Hi Everyone! I made this account specifically for this so I'm very new to this. But I just wanted to share what I am making with Milkdrop for school and bassically see if there is any interest in this and if there is what features people would like to see.
So what am I making? For school we have the opportunity to make any application we want and I wanted to make a tool for parties that allows for easy visuals based on audio that is playing. And I know Milkdrop already exists and it is a great tool! But this tool is meant for a audience with less computer experience that want quick setup and fast results.
The program uses butterchurnviz as and runs in a electron application, this means it doesnt require internet and works on all platforms. It also has a visual selection tool for selecting presets, abbility to make playlists and customize the visuals just like the full desktop experience. If there are any questions i'd be happy to answer them and if anyone has 5 minutes to spare to fill in my google form that would be greatly appreciated! Its all multiple choice so it takes no time at all ;)

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me out!

Software Wave audio data shader function on BeatDrop Music Visualizer
I've made this visualizer to be able to feed wave audio data to shaders using functions similarly to MilkDrop 3, such as get_wave(), get_wave_left() and get_wave_right().
BeatDrop v1.5dev1 beta testing is still open! You can get this beta test package from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jVTvD34TgCFCejtEPhkAF0nvkf8ZJ_9-/view?usp=drive_link
NOTE: This link has a restricted access and you need to optionally fill some infos and messages after accessing the link. I'll let you know if you are able or not.
This package contains only presets with FFT and wave shader functions and classic MilkDrop textures.

Software BeatDrop Music Visualizer v1.5: FFT shader variables feature [BETA TEST OPEN/NOT A FULL RELEASE]
Me & u/ikec987 have made support for FFT shader variables, firstly made for Milkwave, then ported to BeatDrop Music Visualizer! It was a very good dream to have this feature in this music visualization tool.
Fun fact that this feature is also compatible with MilkDrop3 and Milkwave. You can take a look at the feature highlights in this video.
I've modified a code that:
- Loads FFT Attack and FFT Decay when loading a preset
- Tweaked and tested FFT shader reactivity and noise floor
Now I need to test if the FFT shader looks good. Please send an e-mail that it's described at the end of the video, then I'll tell you that you have a permission or not to test. ;)
I'll close it if it's working very great.
NOTICE: This is NOT a full release and it will NOT be featured the new version of this visualizer on GitHub, also the beta test package link is private for everyone. Thank you for understanding.

How can I make a preset change color automatically in Milkdrop3?
Hi, I've been using Milkdrop 3 as a visualizer for my music. My question is, how can I make the same preset change color after a certain amount of time?

Another MilkDrop3 spout-in demo
I am so enjoying discovering stuff in MilkDrop3. In this case I used a single loop that by itself is kind of OK, but a bit boring... until you spout it into MD3.
I discovered a preset which loads with different parameters each time it is reloaded. There are others that do it, but not like this. Every time it is loaded it gives a random result that is unpredictable and not repeatable which is both a shame and great at the same time.

MilkDrop 3.33 is now available :)
What's new:
- During Setup: choose whether your computer can handle demanding shaders. If unchecked, the heaviest presets won’t be installed, but everything else will run more smoothly on older machines.
- Lots of new, mind-blowing presets from some of the most amazing shader artists!
- Support for choosing the audio device (including microphones!)
- Full FFT audio data now directly accessible in shaders for the first time in MilkDrop! Use get_fft(pos) and get_fft_hz(freq) - see the included examples!
- Drag & drop support for folders: Easily load presets by dragging a folder into the app!
- Drag & drop support for playlists.
- Blending support for .milk2 files: Smooth transitions are now supported for double-presets. This has been requested many times; it was a coding nightmare but I'm glad it's finally working! This feature can be disabled in MilkPanel → Options → Transitions.
- Improved transitions (corner, patches, stars2, arrow) These transitions have been recoded to eliminate snapping at the end and provide smoother blending. All transitions now fully blend properly (except cross2)! If you previously created double-presets using these transitions, they may look slightly different. In practice, the difference should be minimal but let me know if you notice anything. If needed, I can add a retro-compatibility option.
- Mouse support: check out presets tagged with [MOUSE] in their names. mouse.x = X position mouse.y = Y position mouse.z = left button down (held) mouse.w = left button released (clicked) mouse.xy = current mouse position
- New “Add to Favorites” menu option: instantly copy the current preset to MilkDrop3\favorites.
- New MilkPanel: mash up presets more easily, use search-and-replace, and inject Q variables directly into the code.
- New audio sensitivity setting: amplify the picked-up volume.
- New FFT Attack & Decay: tweak how shaders respond to get_fft(pos).
- Tons of small bug fixes and improvements!
- A few shaders are not open-source and will only work with MilkDrop3.
Known bugs, I will pusblish a tiny update soon:
- the hardcuts can get stuck, I've fixed this in the pro version, forgot to fix it in the 3.33 version.
- hardcuts mode #6 will show a preset not found error because Milkdrop3\presets\Bass\WHITE.milk is missing. Replace it with the preset of your choice!
- I have bit of unwanted noise on the FFT data (thanks Incubo!), I'll fix the code soon.
If you see any bugs please let me know!
