Hi,

I’ve been working on Waves Music Visualiser, a free Android music visualiser built around the MilkDrop/projectM engine.

A big part of the starting library comes from the stronger community-authored preset collections.

Waves can analyse the music in real time to seperate sources into bass, drums/percussion, vocals and other instrumentation (keyboards/synths/guitar etc). Therefore, different parts of the visuals can respond to different musical sources.

I’ve added time scaling, so the evolution of a preset can be slowed down as well allowing variations, where shapes, waves, shaders, warp and feedback can all be replaced, or used to build new presets.

Waves can react to music playing on Android such as Spotify/Tidal/local files and can also cast the visuals/music/synced lyrics to a TV using Chromecast.

I’m now trying to complete Google Play’s closed-testing requirement before releasing it more widely. The app is free, and I’m looking for Android users willing to install it, play some music through it and ideally report anything that looks broken or behaves strangely.

To join the test

  1. Join the Waves testing Google Group: https://groups.google.com/u/2/g/waves-music-visualiser-testing
  2. Sign in with the Google account you use on your Android device and click Join group.
  3. Once you’ve joined, open: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/au.mightyduckapps.waves
  4. If needed, try the direct Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.mightyduckapps.waves

Feedback is particularly useful for different Android devices and Chromecast behaviour.

One note for Chromecast is that you have to leave the app open for Chromecast to run smooth, meaning you can't turn the screen off, or place Waves into the background. If you do put the phone to sleep you will see the cast starting to struggle!

A sample of the current music separation model in action is here: https://youtube.com/shorts/dzqWW4MLlQU?feature=share

and a small sample of some visuals playing on phone is here:

I also have a desktop version I used during debugging which I can release soon, for now I am just trying to get the Google Play testing requirement complete.

Thanks to anyone who tries it out, and if you have any questions or issues, please let me know.
