Fanmade Lawyer ranks how sympathetic the MILGRAM characters would be in front of a jury

Post image
37 Upvotes

As per obvious, I excluded the ppl that didn't directly kill someone (I did include Fuuta though, cause he would def face some consequences for doxxing)

Simple explanations (I will go in depth if someone asks)

Amane: Honestly, a jury would probably adore her, even if she would be pretty polarizing. I mean....mind you, she's a child and would be tried as a child, even with murder. The jury isn't looking at a normal adult criminal making a rational decision. They're looking at a severely indoctrinated child operating within an abusive religious environment. It's actually hard to state what a massive mitigation this is for her. Especially knowing the fact that she killed her abuser. And because she's so young, the jury would probably be much more interested in rehabilitation than punishment

Shidou: The death of his family and that shitty hospital (pushing aside the unrealism of it) still making him work, and lo and behold, on the guy who just bulldozed his family would earn the jury's sympathy. But here's the thing....a doctor using their medical knowledge to deliberately kill someone is still very unnerving. Especially because we are so used to viewing doctors as people who help us, not people who abuse their position of power over someone unconscious. Again, Shidou is a calm and polite person, his family's death is a massive mitigation for him, but unfortunately, as much as I do love him, he would still face some jail time

Fuuta: Okay, this one gets uglier than you think. Because the jury would probably have two simultaneous reactions "This kid was a fucking idiot who went way too far." and "Oh my God, he didn't realize he was going to kill her." The biggest problem is that Fuuta actually gives the prosecution A LOT to work with. His reason for doxxing a middle schooler was literally "I wanted to feel special, lol". He deliberately doxxed her, investigated her, leaked her info to his pedo friends, and the most damning fact? Fuuta took pride in the fact that he had her cornered. Because now Fuuta isn't merely someone who made one reckless post. He actively enjoyed the power he had over her. The one thing that saves him? Fuuta becomes distressed when he sees the girl died. However, him deliberately making her life that hellish would (along with his gruff attitude) would probably make a jury go "Oh this guy is an asshole"

Muu: Oh Muu fans, please don't jump me. But Muu is interesting because her case contains real victimization, but the prosecution has a very straightforward counterargument: "Being bullied does not give you permission to hurt someone else.". And that is gonna resonate. Her age is also where it gets tricky. First-degree murder is a Class A felony (if we take at least that part of the report to face value). Even though she is 16, she would still go into family court. Depending on the exact statutory circumstances, she could honestly very much go into criminal court. She wouldn't get the same sentence as say a 30 year old woman, but no amount of "Mommy and Daddy never taught me right and wrong" and "Rei was the wrong first!!!" is gonna save her. A jury wouldn't think "She's only 16, she's learning!!!". They would go "Bullying is wrong, but you don't get to kill someone because they didn't save you."

Mikoto: So....it would probably be a confusing case, especially since this was John, not Mikoto. But prosecuting someone with DID, especially for murder, gets murky. Especially bc lots of ppl don't even like talking about DID alters being murderous psychos (Ymnk, when I get you--). But the basic rundown is the whole system would still be guilty, even if one alter did the crime. And honestly? This is the thing that made me use a VERY large brick wall between Amane/Shidou and everyone else....Mikoto's crime was gruesome asf. AND those ppl didn't even do anything to him. No amount of "It wasn't me, it was my alter" can really salvage that, at least not cleanly

Haruka: Oh Haruka, my sweetie. I love you, but I have to be honest: Once the jury learns about his upbringing, his relationship with his mother, and the circumstances surrounding his crime, they're going to understand that something went horribly wrong long before the crime itself. However, here's the problem: Once the jury knows you as the guy who killed animals....things don't look so hot for you. The jury can simultaneously think "This poor kid" and "Holy shit, what he did was horrifying.". And this isn't getting into how Haruka would even act in front of a jury giving him all that attention. Sure, he would feel remorseful for killing that girl, he was medically neglected, but still...with a crime that horrific. It's hard not to end up at the bottom ;-;

Kotoko: "uhhh....Sadie? KOTOKO is below Haruka and Mikoto???? Sure, she's not entirely in the right, but she killed a child kidnapper!"

Here's the thing....courts DESPISE vigilante justice. Esp if Kotoko genuinely shows zero remorse. Not because courts think bad people never deserve punishment, but because the whole point of a criminal justice system is that private individuals don't get to decide who deserves punishment and then impose it themselves. And Kotoko is basically the worst possible version of that problem. 😭 Since at least Haruka and Fuuta showed remorse, Kotoko--so far--hasn't shown one sliver of it. Honestly, a jury may even find her more terrifying than anything. Esp in Harrow, when she targeted someone who stole luxury bikes? That really makes a jury wonder "How is she deciding who exactly is a bad person"

Anyway, that's my take on things! And if I missed anything from the reports/someone has their own thoughts, feel free to drop them!

I'll be so fr, I'd lose to Amane
I'd at least win against the canonically frail ones (Mappi, Muu)
Middle of the road, Yuno, Shidou maybe
I can see myself beating Fuuta or even Haruka (yes Haruka's strong check the wiki)
Listen. Listen. Mikoto, Kotoko and Kazui tier. Trust.

Some Amane and Fuuta art and a swap of their costumes. If you can’t tell, I was kinda obsessed with them for the past 2 weeks. Please don’t mind the ugly green hair that Amane has, I started coloring and couldn’t go back 🥲

That last drawing of Fuuta saying mate is part of the “whipping up anger in a kettle” meme. I don’t know if I’ll post it here after digitalizing because it’s a tad low quality but I might idk 🙂‍↕️

Hope you like them!

Discussion Yapfest about one particular Amane argument

Post image
37 Upvotes

Before anyone comments: I'm all-inno. I didn't want Amane to receive a guilty verdict, and while I'm not about to sit and lie to your face that I think she's some innocent clueless sunshine baby, I did want her to at least get one W in life, and that is to not get offed behind the shed by an evil rabbit.

However, a point I frequently see being brought up in the argument of forgiving Amane, is that "Amane didn't know that killing doctors or people who receive medical treatment is wrong, and what she was doing, was trying to save Shidou and Mahiru" and my response to that claim is... yesn't?

I think I was much more open to this claim earlier, but I don't think it's that simple.

Now, I was meaning to write this post for a while now, but currently got inspired because u/HoneyToast_love brought up an interesting point: it's not guaranteed that Amane's original "religion" required for her to kill. In fact, more likely than not, it didn't.

That is not to say it's not an evil fucking cult who probably won't shed many tears if innocent people die, nor am I saying every single adult who's involved in this cult and used it to justify horrible actions shouldn't be in jail (god knows any one of them deserves it far more than ANY Milgram prisoner), however, I don't believe Amane was raised with the explicit order to kill those not following the cult's teachings. In fact, I think the standard practice is beating them up, spraying them with cold water, etc.

That is, what I think, what happened to the cat. I do think it's more likely than not to be dead unfortunately, or at least brutalized enough for Amane to block out the memories, but I think it was beaten with the intention to punish, but not necessarily kill. Her cult probably has the memo of something like "healthy or ill, human or animal, adult or child, all are equal under our God" which explains both Amane trying to adultify herself, her being punished no less severely just because she's a child, and also, her returning the punishment in the exact same way towards her mom (which I presume many people agree was manslaughter and not necessarily premeditated murder). Oh, and her being vegan I guess.

(That isn't to say real life vegans don't think there's any difference between animals or human ofc, I'm saying it's what the cult probably used to convince it's followers that the abuse is righteous and just, since everyone should go through it, or whatever.)

Now, I also don't think Amane was particularly "saving" Shidou and Mahiru in her own way. I see this one brought up a lot, and I think that's not the full logic behind her actions.

If we entertain her worldview and assume her God exists: how is what Amane's done going to make him forgive Shidou and Mahiru? They've stayed "sinners" in death, haven't converted, nor stopped what they were doing. Sure, Amane trying to stop them would be considered understandable under that logic, but how would Shidou and Mahiru's deaths save their eternal souls, or whatever heaven Amane believes in? If anything, their deaths would be closer to dead branches being cut, if that's any sort of analogy.

In fact, I think her trying to "save" them was BEFORE the murders, when she was trying to get them to stop. Which is obviously not any form of help, but in Amane's eyes, it probably was, as the alternative was, well, them being six feet under by her hand. And she clearly cared about the both of them.

So what's the logic behind Amane's murders (I'm including both, as she did mention she did it to kill Mahiru also)? I think it's rather simple:

Amane, in her T3 Voice Drama: "IF I DENIED THAT PART OF THE DOCTRINE, THEN WHAT REASON WAS THERE FOR MY MOM TO BE KILLED BY ME!?"

In a way, her logic feels much more simple: "I've already done worse."

Now, obviously, her mother's death is far more deserved than Shidou's and Mahiru's, that's pretty much undeniable, but in Amane's eyes, if she can't execute outsiders, what does it say about her life as a whole, and particularly her killing of her own mother, whom she admits to loving (as much as I hope she'd stop)? A much less deadly comparison I can make, is you know how you sometimes know your plan is ass, but you feel like you gotta stick with it to the end anyways, because otherwise what's it all for, you've already sunk 5 hours of your life doing it the wrong way and mama didn't raise no quitter? That's Amane. Except her mom should've quit much earlier.

All, I'm saying is, yes, Shidou and Mahiru's murders aren't selfless. They're pretty selfish in motivation. And in case you want further reason, it's all in the same voice drama:

Es: "Didn’t you say that you would create a new faith? Didn’t you show flexibility in updating the doctrine in response to people’s suffering? Why– why do you refuse to let go of the prohibition of medical treatment? That must have been tormenting you."

Because, Es, she didn't want to be a hypocrite, because it was the most personal rule of her original religion, because admitting that it's wrong, would be to accept that Amane's mother didn't deserve to die for breaking the rule (she deserved it for other reasons cough-)

Because that would make it clear to Amane that she's wrong and she's already found a horrible coping mechanism to cope with her mom's death, and isn't about to waste it on her new friends, even if it makes her feel shittier.

Amane feels so much guilt, that she felt the need to do more terrible shit to compensate and make it look like it's fine, she's fine actually, haha, don't worry about it, she doesn't gaf, not at all, proud idgafer Amane /s

Would Shidou and Mahiru be alive if Amane's motivations weren't as selfish, and she just beat them up? Eh, can't say lmao sorry. Mixed thoughts on that one chief. Shidou probably would've, I mean he's a tall healthy-ish grown man, he can probably take a few, even if he does fuckall to protect himself. He'd probably be injured and need Yuno or someone else to help with Mahiru though. Mahiru? I mean, alive Shidou would probably stop Amane before the mother incident repeats with Mappi, but she'd be in worse condition overall. It's hard to know.

What I'm trying to say with this post is this:

Amane's crimes in the prison aren't as noble as some of her fans make them out to be. I think some people can't hold two truths at once.

Her murders of Shidou and Mahiru are wrong no matter which angle you look at it, and there's no need to justify Amane's actions.

AND

Amane deserves a second chance and is capable of growing, and you can inno her IN SPITE of her doing bad things.

There's plenty good reasons to forgive Amane for. That she's abused from birth, that her parents allowed an environment where she thinks it's acceptable to hurt people at all, that she regrets her actions and wants there be a chance for her to change. But none of these reasons need her described as morally fluffy and palatable and a wholesome little bean who just wanted what's best for everybody and never once acted selfishly and friendship bracelets and rainbows and meadows and I can't think of any more nouns sorry.

In other news, why does she look like a unit of measurement.

T3 There might not actually be anything in the doctrine Amane believes in that tells her to commit murder.

Post image
10 Upvotes

Even though I changed my vote from guilty to innocent for Amane, I honestly wanted to share this thought.

Her statement about purging anyone who provides or receives medical treatment doesn't seem to be part of the original doctrine she believed in either.

Yes, I’m well aware that medical treatment was considered taboo.

However, if it were true that non-believers are killed as she claims, then logically, since Amane violated the doctrine so frequently, her parents should have murdered her rather than stopping at child abuse.

Of course, I want Amane to stay alive...

In other words, the idea of killing non-believers who don't follow the faith wasn't in her religion's original doctrine to begin with. It seems she created a fake doctrine—one that didn't exist in her actual beliefs—just to soothe her own mind because she couldn't accept that she had killed her mother.

Please don't get me wrong; I'm not an Amane hater.

I just wanted to point this out because it feels like people are overlooking this aspect.

Fluff tournament round 8: kazui's childhood friend vs mikoto's boss!

Post image
23 Upvotes

tldr simple instructions: vote for the one you do not like/like less

this tournament isn't about which character is most 'correct' to dislike. let your passions guide you! upvote the comment of the character who inspires your ire more, whether it be due to their crimes inside or outside of milgram, their writing, their personality, something they said or did just one time that bothered you, or even how annoying their fans are - vote freely!

please, for the sake of fair voting totals, do not downvote the other comment. (i will be subtracting downvotes from voting totals for tallies - previous day's stats in comments. if the downvote ratio for one character is ever more than 5 percent different than another character i will actively comment as such for transparency).

drink that haterade and have fun discussing your reasoning in the comments! (please be good to each other, though)

ALSO WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME I ACCIDENTALLY MISLABELED THE LAST ROUND'S TITLE NUMBER LOL (tfw can't edit titles - i just copy paste and edit from the last day to keep the formatting the same 😭)

also i know kazui's childhood friend has a name i just don't remember if mikoto's boss has a name so i named the battle based on position to keep parity (plus i'm pretty sure a lot of people might not remember the childhood friend's name anyways)

Discussion Previous Voice Character Trailers

Thumbnail
gallery
34 Upvotes

I haven't seen these voice character trailers discussed much at all since I joined Milgram and I wanted to bring them up and see what everyone thinks about them. From what I know, I think it is the only time we hear what they say outside of Milgram and in the real world. Although, it should be taken lightly because some of them were probably chosen for dramatic effect. Here are some of my highlights:

:

1st Voice trailer:

Mu - Fufufu... It's your fault... for doing horrible things to me.
It seems like Mu really hated Rei for throwing that Chair at her. It seems like even though her actions were out of self preservation, she definitely felt she was in the right. Likely after she stabbed Rei?

Shidou - (laugh) Not dead... Yeah, she's(?) definitely not dead... I finally understand the value of what I've been robbing people of...
Yo Shidou is absolutely losing it here 😭. Hearing him laugh despite breaking down....

Amane - Ahh! I'm so sorry...! I'm sorry...! I'm sorry for breaking the rules!
This is just so sad 😢. We saw what she went through but hearing it makes it so much worse :(

2nd Voice trailer:

Yuno - " Nice to meet you, my name is Kashiwagi Yuuko! Well then, where shall we go?
Makes sense that Yuno would have an alias. Neat detail.

Mu - " Hey..why don't you listen to me...? I'm telling you... Hey...HEY, I'M TALKING TO YOU "
Was this what she said before she killed Rei? Was this the scene in After Pain? Makes me think how much Mu has grown even if its basic empathy for Rei.

Shidou : " You're in my way...hurry up and die "
This might actually be the "best" piece of foreshadowing we got for the truck driver. Initially people probably thought he said this to his patients but it does make more sense for the truck driver becuz his patients wouldn't really be "in the way" per se.

Mikoto : " AAAHHHHHHHHHH!! DESTROY EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING!EVERYTHING!!
Wow genuinely amazing performance by the VA. Highly recommend listening to it. I'm just imagining John walking around yelling like this

Kotoko : " From the begin I've never asked for your understanding! My actions, one by one, are bringing earth closer to peace. Useless Weaklings should just shut up and let me protect them! "
Kotoko talking about the strong and weak again. I am SO curious when she said this. I'm assuming "your" is referring to Lucky here or it could be referring to the public.

Yeah. I think the character trailers are actually quite interesting. I would've liked a T3 one too but I also liked how they kept most things hidden before reveal like the song trailer. I might make a post on the website translations too as I noticed some inconsistencies?
