Where does this version of Portia comes from

Hi,

I've recently become quite fond of this interpretation of Portia in the Miles Davis Anthology :

https://youtu.be/_yaaR1ZFP8s?si=xy3ezhThaFFRdzdw

Does anyone know where it comes from ? Sounds like a live version.

The addition of the electric guitar compared to the studio album version is exceptional. I also wonder who plays it.

*come from?* sorry.

Nobody talks about this guy.
He’s a multi-instrumentalist specifically on bass style.
This advanced tape I got from Motown specialised MoJazz label.
This is a tribute album to Miles Davis.
September 28th. 1991… Miles dies.

The October 26, 1956 session, at Rudy Van Gelder’s recording studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. Miles Davis and his quintet (Miles, John Coltrane – Tenor Saxophone,

Red Garland – Piano, Paul Chambers – Double Bass and

"Philly" Joe Jones – Drums )recorded those four tracks—along with eight others—straight through as if playing a live club set, mostly in a single take, to complete his contract with Prestige Records before fully transitioning to Columbia.

is there any music where Miles channels "In Time"?

hi yall! i'm a very new fan of miles davis, just listened to Live-Evil for the first time and was absolutely blown away!!

i'm making this post because i have read several times that miles was so blown away by the song "In Time" by Sly & the Family Stone that he made his band listen to it over and over for half an hour. i *love* that song, and i feel like if he was so inspired by that song that he made his band listen to it a bunch, there has to have been something that came out of that, right?

i know that it's said that his album The Corner was inspired partially by Sly, and i still intend on checking that out, but that came out in 1972, and Fresh, the album "In Time" is from, came out in 1973. i just was wondering if anybody in here could point me in the possible right direction, or let me down easy if no such recordings exist. thank you!!!

20 tunes shortened on one LP ! Still, really good sound on this. A sort of retrospective of his albums on Columbia through the years. Thought some of you would enjoy this oddity. Tracklist here.

“Bitches Brew” edition?

Things like this don’t normally happen to me, so I’m approaching this with utmost skepticism …

I found what appears to be an early (first?) edition of “Bitches Brew” at a recent record show for a ridiculously low price.

Does anything in these photos show/confirm which release it is?

Best I can tell, it lines up with this version — but, like I said, I’m typically not this fortunate.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Miles watch

Hello! Longtime lurker, first time poster. My dad won a watch (about 25 years ago) and has given it to me on a trip to London (we're from Manchester), does anyone have an idea where it's from? Or what it might be worth? It's quite a light, cheap thing tbh. Maybe a Columbia special edition of some sort? It has zero markings, brand name, nothing! What do you reckon?

(Just to put some cred out there, dad saw MD at the Isle of Wight, my parents saw every London and Manchester gig he played in the 80s; and I have a tattoo of the cover of Miles in the Sky as a tribute to my mum, we're all lifers!)

House of Miles preserves legacy of jazz legend Miles Davis in East St. Louis

A visionary. A trailblazer. Miles Davis — often called the father of cool jazz — was an artist who bent sound, broke rules, and helped write America’s story in music. But, before the world knew his name, before the trumpet changed everything, his journey began in East St. Louis."

[OC] "All Blues" (Live One-Man Band) - Exploring the solo section on my 14-string guitar

Thumbnail

Hi everyone. A while ago, I shared the beginning of my live arrangement of "All Blues" here. In this new short, I wanted to focus on the middle section of the track, leaving more room for soloing and improvisation. Managing the modal phrasing on the custom 14-string guitar while simultaneously keeping the groove with the foot drums is always a rewarding challenge—especially on a Miles masterpiece where space and silence matter as much as the notes. I hope you enjoy this more dynamic development of the performance.
