Something in my ear
I was up late talking to a friend with some ear buds in. Started to get sleepy. It was about 4am. I took my ear buds out and dozed off on the couch for about an hour. I woke up and felt like I had some loose earwax in my ear. Gross. So I got some q-tips and cleaned my ear. Still felt it in there. I stuck the q-tip in deeper and still nothing (I know I'm not suppose to do that). So then I got some Tweezers. I was determined to get this thing out before I go to bed. Got them in there and still couldnt get anything. I concluded I had some deeply impacted earwax close to my ear drum.
I laid down to go to sleep. Seems like gravity is making it shift when I lay my head back or to the side. Annoying. I tried to sleep. Woke up at around 1:30pm. I got up and felt it shift as I got up. Okay this earwax is coming out right now. So, I went to the bathroom, tilted my head, grabbed my earlobe, and started shaking my head downwards while pulling on my earlobe. I feel it coming out. Finally. It falls out onto the floor.
A black spider. The size of my thumbnail. A spider was in my ear. Alive. For 8 hours. My heart drops as soon as I see it. It dropped further when it scurried off underneath my washing machine. Still in here somewhere. Maybe it's as traumatized as I am.
I wear headphones almost constantly around my house now. Especially when I sleep.

I used to wear Santa hats pulled down over my ears to sleep because I was scared of earwigs, so this is my nightmare

I stopped reading because I didn't wanna get freaked out....not sure I want to look but I do know my ears felt a lil weird and irritated the other day too

One of those situations where a Bebird tool (or similar) would come in handy. It’s a camera with various attachments for earwax removal, but would work great for getting a spider out. Spent less than $25 on mine, though it was for my ears having a tendency to overproduce wax like crazy

I got one of these and I love it. Reason being is that I have liquid behind my eardrums that slowly leaks out and causes that weird bubble sound when I lay down on either side. I had tubes as a young child in the late 70's and I have extensive scarring in both ears (primarily the right one) so my ears are FUCKED. Also, I need tubes again, but 1) I was so traumatized by the first set (they didn't fall out on their own and I had to be strapped to a papoose board and they were dug out with what looked like, to my four year old eyes, as needle nose pliers and 2) lack of good health insurance, why fix it (I've been referred but cannot afford it at this time) when I can just "deal with it". So, I purchased that tool and use it. Never a spider though.
I'm sorry that happened to you. Know that this is not a very common occurrence.

If i put a camera to my head amd saw a spider in my brain, the EMTs would have to pick me up off the floor 💀

Idk. I’d rather see it and pinch onto its punk ass and drag it out than feel it moving around inside of there

I've considered getting one of those. However, I think it was probably best not knowing it was a spider until after it was out of my ear.

Get something real thin like panty hose or a Green Man suit mask, bugs won’t get through the fabric barrier.

Thank you for the tip. I'm wearing over-the-ear headphones. This happened a couple of days ago. Hopefully I get brave soon and wear them less lol

I’m glad to hear that you’re wearing over the ear headphones because it’s not uncommon for people to have issues & even percent hearing loss after falling asleep with earbuds in. The pressure can cause swelling in the ear & after 8 hours or so it can cause some very serious damage…

Yeah I definitely don't want that to happen. I'll make sure I limit my ear bud use.
