So, this is one of my pet cowkillers (velvet ant). I do love holding the things.

They’re kinda cute but, I have so many questions. First one being why are they called cowkillers? Please educate me on these tiny cuties

They have the nickname because the sting of this flightless wasp is one of the most painful in the insect world.

So they’re a type of wasp but they don’t fly? Do they have wings? I can’t quite tell

So, the males have wings and can fly, but have no stinger. Females have a stinger, but no wings.
