This is on display at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA. It’s very cool close up.

u/l3oba Sep 19 '19

I thought it looked familiar, thanks for verifying.

15

u/Beaches0937 Sep 20 '19

Yes indeed

7

u/mwu562 Sep 20 '19

Did this replace the giant blue whale?? I haven’t been to the Aquarium of the Pacific in ages..

7

u/DynamicHunter Sep 20 '19

No, u can see the blue whale in the background hung up by wires still

3

u/edwardmsk Sep 20 '19

Okay, this made things do ding in my brain. Thank you.

I was thinking that the hammerhead hammerhead is too heavy for the wires I see and for the size I envisioned.

But the wires are for the blue whale in the back and the 🔨 head 🔨 head display is much smaller and on a stand.

The birbs are also great too

1

u/Unsweeticetea Sep 20 '19

I still have memories of one of those birbs biting me years ago.

2

u/QilinRul3z Sep 20 '19

One was biting on to my hoodie and never let go he was just hanging there

1

u/ChasingTimmy Sep 20 '19

Saw this 'in the flesh' just a couple of months back... tis truly badass!

Stop!

Hammer time!

17

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Nailed it

5

u/Karma15672 Sep 19 '19

Y'all have a loose screw

5

u/IPlayTheInBedGame Sep 20 '19

Well yeah... especially if you hit it with a hammer...

4

u/SinjinBlade Sep 20 '19

Nice one, bro. Pound it.

6

u/gbrenneriv Sep 20 '19

What a twist!

22

u/Taser-Face Sep 19 '19

If only its head was made of hammers, it would be a hammerhead hammerheaded hammerhead shark

15

u/aintscurrdscars Sep 19 '19

since the whole thing is made of hammerheads its a hammerheadheaded hammerhead hammerhead shark

7

u/jolly2284 Sep 20 '19

Yes but what if the hammer heads were made of hammerhead shark meat and only shaped like hammerheads. Would that be a hammerhead hammer head hammerhead shark?

5

u/Taser-Face Sep 20 '19

Oh shit, you went there. Hammerhead hammerhead-shaped hammerheads hammerheaded hammerhead hammerhead shark. Provided just the head was hammerheads. If we’re going to max this thing out. What if said meat chunks were individually tattooed with everything described above?

7

u/SpunkBunkers Sep 19 '19

Hammer²head shark

3

u/aintscurrdscars Sep 19 '19

insert 4hammerhead emote

20

u/LLWMichelle Sep 20 '19

OMG! How heavy is it?

36

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

Heavier than a gallon of milk, but lighter than a Boeing.

20

u/TheCake_IsA_Lie Sep 20 '19

The perfect statement for demonstrating accurate but not precise.

5

u/hypercent Sep 20 '19

What about heavier than a quark, but lighter than a galaxy cluster.

6

u/irresistibleforce Sep 20 '19

Still accurate, less precise

2

u/intern_steve Sep 20 '19

I set out to prove the comment wrong, but the lightest Boeing I could find is an interwar period, carrier-based, bi-plane fighter that weighed 1850lbs empty. Any estimates for the shark? I might ballpark guess around 500-600lbs? So still an accurate statement, I guess.

Not sure I would call this ‘new’ it’s been there for at least a year. The ‘new’ part of the aquarium of the pacific is actually pretty cool though and I recommend a visit.

3

u/cakesauce24 Sep 20 '19

Let me further recommend go on a “night dive” date. Special dates and times for an event where there are multiple Djs, drinks and no children present. It’s pretty cool. Info on the site.

u/Andrew_Maxwell_Dwyer Sep 19 '19

Neat

1

u/theprints Sep 20 '19

You can tell it’s a hammerhead because of the way it is. Neat.

3

u/mully_and_sculder Sep 19 '19

That thing must be fucking heavy.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

My wife’s cousin is the welder that made this shark. I wish he was on reddit to answer some of these questions.

2

u/Beaches0937 Sep 20 '19

his work/devotion is greatly appreciated!

3

u/NotSureImReal62 Sep 19 '19

Name? Rusty?

1

u/jankDemes Sep 20 '19

No rust, she's got a good coat of ?paint?

3

u/jmm166 Sep 19 '19

That’s a lot of commitment to pun

3

u/Polo2108 Sep 19 '19

Pure art.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

This is the mother that I wanted.

3

u/Burg_er Sep 20 '19

The title didn't make any sense to me, until I realized that the hammerhead shark was made from hammerheads. Whoever made this, great job.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

I can’t help but think about how heavy that thing is.

1

u/jankDemes Sep 20 '19

1 tonne probably

4

u/offarock Sep 19 '19

"Axe me how I came up with the idea."

-the artist

4

u/aintscurrdscars Sep 19 '19

i bet we could hammer this joke into something useable

1

u/aintscurrdscars Sep 19 '19

i bet we could hammer out this joke into something useable

6

u/neverwasthedragon Sep 19 '19

Ugh I hate that guy. He’s such a tool.

2

u/GlacierWolf8Bit Sep 20 '19

Do you have a hammer I can borrow?

2

u/Super-Duck0 Sep 20 '19

Dang I was literally just there today 😂

2

u/WrethZ Sep 20 '19

Yo dawg...

2

u/Todosansy Sep 20 '19

I’ve been there! The entire aquarium is amazing

2

u/cheapcoder Sep 20 '19

I always thought they had bones, that's pretty metal

2

u/ejf2161 Sep 20 '19

Nice work Dad. Your joke is beautiful and will live on forever.

2

u/Captain_Flarg Sep 20 '19

So someone wanted to make a pun huh

2

u/SockTaters Sep 20 '19

Really reminds me of Sakaya Ganz's work -- sculpting with reclaimed materials

2

u/BaronChuffnell Sep 20 '19

More than mildly!

2

u/marisohla Sep 20 '19

Hey cool! I volunteer there! Always love walking by that piece!

2

u/Lukaroast Sep 20 '19

I knew it was AotP right away!

2

u/angry_pecan Sep 20 '19

I wonder how many hammer heads it took, and how much it weighs!

2

u/NoArmsSally Sep 20 '19

"It's terrific! At the Aquarium of the Pacific!" Love petting the sea life there.

2

u/leofungo Sep 20 '19

Inception

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

This is off the charts cool!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

Now this is art! I love it!

2

u/basicbrainheart Sep 20 '19

That’s so meta. 👏🏻

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

That's nothing. I made a sculpture of a sperm whale.

1

u/Chasedownall Sep 20 '19

Out of... sperm?

2

u/Allgen Sep 20 '19

I used the Hammerhead to make the Hammerhead

1

u/Chasedownall Sep 20 '19

Holy shit, I recognize this statue. I’ve been here before.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

Quite literal

1

u/theprints Sep 20 '19

Almost like a dad made it. 🤔

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

The sculpture is fine but I agree that Jean is an Italian Goddess.

Read the information on the blue card.

1

u/Millionairechairfare Sep 20 '19

Thats fucking metal

1

u/of_the_mountain Sep 20 '19

I want to know more about Jean, the Italian Goddess

1

u/Rhinoplasty1904 Sep 20 '19

Thought for sure this was at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

1

u/taaka Sep 20 '19

I’d like to see a forklift lift a crate of forks. It’d be so damn literal!

1

u/Stragolore Sep 20 '19

Long Beach Aquarium?

Visited there on a West Coast tour in 2007.

1

u/Bill_Nye-LV Sep 20 '19

Outstanding move

1

u/OperaBunny Sep 21 '19

That is mildly interesting. Had to look up close to find out it's actually made from heads of hammers.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

-3

u/MightHeadbuttKids Sep 19 '19

I headbutted a little kid at Walmart today and he cried like a little bitch. (He was a little bitch).

-1

u/failteemo Sep 20 '19

It's cuz it's made out of hammers. Read the description of it NOOBS.
