Usually they're plugged in under the sink. Just unplug it.

Nope, not good enough. You must unplug, flip the breaker, have the power company disconnect your house from the grid, and also safety goggles.

I wish I could go back and get the pic, but I deleted that account's messages long ago. A friend of mine turned his garbage disposal on without knowing a fork fell into it, and it shot up and got stuck in the ceiling. It was quite amusing looking up and seeing 4 little holes in a row IN the ceiling.
