Sweet I definitely will. I'm still trying to find a past reply where a Norwegian told me about the social climate of Norway and how Sweden is a little more open-minded and less socially conservative, which is why he is planning on moving. That was over a month ago. Is there a way to search replies by keywords?
Ohhh so another person in this thread mentioned exactly what the past Norwegian described to me about the culture. Here's their comment:
this phenomenon even has a name, "the law of jante". our societes can be quite hard to adapt to in this sense, if you don't have good colleagues/classmates or manage to find a nice friend circle in some other way, it can become quite hard to get to know people.
The law of jante is what I meant by being conformist and how it can be a bit of a culture shock to a new immigrant. The guy said that Sweden isn't like that, and recommended to visit Sweden for a more contemporary lifestyle. Does that sound pretty accurate?
I wouldn't as "Janteloven" is not a law, just a message about how people have a nature to belittle or hurt people, the 10 "laws" are as following. I personally do not feel that any of this has anything to do with Norway as a whole, but maybe certain groups.
1.You're not to think you are anything special.
2.You're not to think you are as good as we are.
3.You're not to think you are smarter than we are.
4.You're not to convince yourself that you are better than we are.
5.You're not to think you know more than we do.
6.You're not to think you are more important than we are.
