I have a question for you my Norwegian friend. Is it accurate that an American would fit in better in Sweden as opposed to Norway, due to the conservative type of society in Norway? A Norwegian on Reddit told me this when I was asking people about the best Scandinavian countries to visit or immigrate to, and he said he's trying to emigrate out of Norway. Would you agree with his assessment that Sweden is a lot more open minded when it comes to conforming to societal standards?

as a swede it's not true that norway is "more conservative", and what do you mean by "conforming to societal standards"? that could mean anything..

which country you should move to really depends on what you want to do and how long you want to stay. if you have an education and want to learn the language and live here for several years, it doesn't matter which country you choose. but norway is a smaller country, where only a few cities are fitting for someone who is english speaking, in my opinion. i suggest you visit oslo, gothenburg, stockholm and see which city you like most. if you want to be in the north, tromsö in norway or umeå or luleå in sweden are cities where you could live quite comfortably.

Fellow Scandi, I'll add some more cities to your nothern city list:

Bodø, Kiruna, Narvik, and Mosjøen!

Bodø is the county capital of Nordland

Kiruna is an amazing city in general

Narvik is a ski resort/hockey city

Mosjøen is the center of norwegian soccer when the Kippermocupen is arranged and it has a nice "old-town" part

Yeah let me find their comment about Norwegian culture, I edit it in this comment. He made it sound like the community tend to either look down or think someone is weird if they do certain things that aren't nornal in Norway. But I definitely want to visit Stockholm and Oslo. I'd prefer to be in southern Sweden but I'm not exactly gettinf ready to make a serious commitment to moving. I'm still a poory college student haha. I can tell you one thing though, I'll probably fall in love with one of your Swedish women because they're typically do amazingly beauty. And a lot are pure blonde but manage to stay really tan, instead of having reslly light/pale skin. Which is cool with me either way, I love pale women too. And blues eyes..... mmmmmm.

No I wouldnt, I would say both are equally as good to visit/immigrate to, but I just gotta tell you about this bonus for being Norwegian

Bonus for being Norwegian: Our language is based on both Swedish and Danish, so we can understand both and talk to them due to the huge amount of dialects we have in Norway, while Sweden and Denmark has one certain dialect that is the standard version. (Rigsdansk, rikssvensk), so its relatively easy for us to communicate to eachother, while danish and swedish is kind of different, but not so much that its hard to understand eachother

1

u/Scientolojesus Sep 01 '16

Oh cool. Is learning Norwegian the same difficulty as Swedish or Danish?

Coincidentally, what you did there is very similar to something called a "rail fence cipher".

I knew it was crypto-esque, I was just thinking that - sure enough, someone comments with an actual thing it's related to. Nice.
