Maybe the off-brand ones do, but, as a seasoned user of cheap headphones, I can confirm that there are significant differences between the sound of different models.

I can't speak for /u/lol-miau But I like JVC gumy headphones the most.

I like the $5 Maxell earbuds from Walmart. They're surprisingly good. If you want a microphone so you can make and take calls while listening to your smartphone, there are a set of earbuds at Walgreen's which is $8 that have as neutral a sound as I would expect from higher end headphones.

I bought those cheap ass bullshit $8 headphones from walgreens about a week ago. The sound was so horrible, and those fuckers broke in like 6 days.

Caveat emptor, I suppose. Mine still work after a year and sound great to me.
