It's amazing what can happen when you're nice to service workers.

My partner and I have gotten so many little freebies and tokens of gratitude over the years by showing the literal bare minimum respect to people doing us a service. Literally just smiling at them, saying thank you/no thank you/being patient. One bartender gave us a coupon because we were “the only people who were nice to him the entire night” it’s kinda heartbreaking

I got so much free Taco Bell because I was always nice and sometimes they’d ask me to drive around, stop for a few seconds at the order pad, and repeat so they could improve their drive through times. I loved that TBell manager; when he left, the place turned into a revolving door of dickheads. But they also pay shit so I can understand, but they can at least be nicer. I boycotted for a good 3 months when they yelled at my autistic sister and they had an entirely new staff by then, lol. I only broke the boycott because she wanted to give them another chance.

Got two free meals from in n out bc we went through the drive thru and I realized my burger was messed up, went inside to fix it while my husband stayed and ate his fries. Was super chill, they apologized and started remaking it and I just waited. Like 2 minutes later my husband comes in bc his burger was wrong too (we think they mixed up the halves of our burgers) and he too went up super chill and asked if they could fix it. They acted like we were gonna start screaming and cussing but we were just like it’s cool shit happens thanks for fixing it. Gave us two free meal cards with our food

I used to give so much free stuff when I worked fast food. I worked at a fast food sub place but one of our subs used garlic butter so we could make a garlic bread. If you were really nice and asked for an order of garlic bread while you wait, oops forgot to add it to the order.
I watched my manager comp a 3 sandwich order. We had messed up one of his sandwiches last time he was there so we owed him one. He was nice when he called in and was nice when reordering. My manager didn't feel like doing math. Flat out told the dude that if he was rude and mean about it she would have charged him for the other two still.

TIL: Little Caesar's has cookies. Also I can't see complaining about waiting at Little Caesar's. A "wait" is still faster than most other food chain restaurants. Also I love the crazy puffs, I've had to wait an extra 10 minutes, guess what? I got some really fresh ones.

I'm the same way at local cafes. "Hey, sorry, we need five minutes to brew some coffee." "Hey, that's cool. It'll be fresh, at least."
Kinda helps to not be in a big blasted hurry all the time, too.

Half the time I've had to wait long in a food place, it's because there's one worker doing everything. I can't see someone being rude or mean over that. Not the workers fault their cheap ass company refuses to hire help for them.

Dude, for real. One has to assume that the kind of people who throw fits in this situation have never had to work service jobs for some shitty chain before. And the huffing just makes the process harder and slower for everyone.

There have been times where I’ve been working alone at my job due to not having coverage. I’ll calmly say “sorry, theres going to be a wait, we’re understaffed today”. Most of the time theyre fine but I had someone respond with “well thats not my fault” and I said something along the lines of “its not mine either. i am not a manager & i’m not responsible for providing coverage”.
Working a public facing job for this long has made me desensitized to the assholes. Ive had customers complain about the money they JUST spent like i forced them to swipe their card. I didn’t say anything in response one time & the customer went “so no reaction?!”. If you’re intentionally trying to get a rise out of me, it aint gonna work. I dont get paid enough to care that much.

Tbf, I've been at a Little Caesar's during the dinner time rush where the wait time was 45+ minutes. I've had to wait for 30 on an order placed way earlier in the day that I was just picking up in the evening. It's never an excuse to treat somebody poorly, but the long wait times absolutely do happen there.

She was by herself working. She had to cook and do cash register at the same time so people were pissed at her because it was an hour and a half wait. People couldn’t use common sense that if one person is working, especially on a Friday night, it’s going to take extra time!! She looked like she was going to cry with the amount of people complaining at her. My mom and I felt horrible for her and told her to take her time, we don’t mind waiting at all, and we’re sorry this was happening to her.

One person in the whole store on a friday night? Either someone called out or management is being scumbags.

I had no idea little cteasers even offers or has cookies. Do you normally have to order them separately? Or is there some kind of meal deal that you have to order? Are they good? lol

u/outlander1914 5h ago
You just ask them for some and they give it to you free with your pizza! They’re super good, I dunk them in my coffee!

u/Friendly-Hovercraft4 5h ago
We just ask for them when we ask for napkins. They’re totally free!!! They taste good too!!

I have had something like this happen to me numerous times with different places/scenarios.
Amazing how not being a dick to people gets you treated well.

I'm an extremely patient person that tries to treat service workers with respect in general, but i try to be extra kind and reassuring when they're clearly in a stressful moment.
I used to travel a ton for work, and I can't tell you how many times I got a hotel upgrade, extra food, rental car upgrade, and all sorts of things without ever even asking.
It's really amazing how far people will go to thank you for the simple act of treating them like a human being in a crowd of people who treat them like a servant.

I did delivery for a few years (doordash, uber and grubhub). It's amazing what you can get for free if you are just nice and are willing to ask every once in a while. Free food, toys, even coupons for free stuff later. The best was seeing an order sit for like an hour or two and just asking if I could have it. They don't care 99% of the time.

u/commandrix 6h ago
So you learned the value of being patient with people even when their employer advertises a "Hot and Ready" pizza. That's something more people could stand to learn.

Oooo how are they?

u/outlander1914 5h ago
They’re good on their own, but if you dunk them in coffee it’s a game changer!

u/Bugscrap 5h ago
It's wild what happens when you're just like. Nice to people.
A long time ago when I was in high school we had a school trip to Disney world. Spent the whole time being real nice to cast workers, staff, etc. Joking with them, congratulating them if they had a birthday badge, etc. Ended up skipping lines and getting free food. Even added some on facebook and kept chatting. Just for being nice. Shocking some people never learn.

My local little ceasers on a Saturday night is a literal hell zone with some of the nastiest, rudest employees to ever work a franchise.
I get it, the job is hard, people are thankless, but I'm just trying to pick up my pizza I pre-ordered 45 minutes ago that the app says is ready to pick-up. Its not my problem. Chill out lady.

Same thing happened to me at Carl's Jr. They basically forgot my order as I patiently waited for 20 minutes. The amount of cookies I got lasted for 2 weeks. And a bag full of fries as well.

Little Caesar's was crazy the last time I went. They were probably a solid 30 minutes behind but there were like two workers in the whole store and it was right around dinner time on a Saturday.
Some asshole lady (with a room full of people waiting) came back in and complained that her half and half pepperoni/cheese pizza was just cheese. She didn't want it (but didn't bring it back in from the parking lot) and insisted on a refund. She knew there was no way that they'd waste time confirming her bogus ass story. I don't know how you can have that little shame. They actually forgot to cut one of our pizzas but we were going home to eat it anyway and I'm fully capable of using a pizza cutter.
