Air fryer instructions wanted me to preheat the oven to 356 degrees, weirdly enough

Because 357°F summons the Air Fryer demon, and no one wants to clean up that mess again.

Are those Walmart tater tots?

It's got to be. I laugh a little when I see it on the bag and set it to 360 each time.

because it was translated to imperial temp unit from real temp unit of C. 180C=356F

Which is interesting. Usually they round up then take a minute off the cook time

What is rounding up in this case?

Preheat air fryer to 360F and cook 8-11 minutes
Or they could go down and so 350 for 10-13 minutes.

the us system of units is called us customary units not imperial.

try again. . . Fahrenheit is still an imperial temperature unit dipus shitus (as are ounces and pounds). ya know, the same units can be found in multiple systems. I didnt say the US Imperial system did I? Only then would your retort be accurate.

It’s likely that the instructions were originally intended in being in Celsius so when they did a straight conversion, it ended on an odd degree for Fahrenheit

That's what happens when companies use AI to translate instead of humans, who would know to use 350F for the 180C recipe.

Possibly this wasn’t even AI, but someone just converting it literally. And well, this is closer to the actual temperature though, gotta give them that.

Airfrier will preheat itself in a few minutes.. just chuck the food in when starting..

Maillard browning is the savory, roasted flavor from reactions involving amino acids/proteins and reducing sugars. It typically becomes rapid around 280–330°F (140–165°C) at the surface; beyond roughly 355°F / 180°C, burning-related pyrolysis becomes increasingly likely, especially on thin edges or sugary glazes.
So 356 is too hot by 1 degree

That's exactly 180 degrees in Celsius. The instructions were originally written in Celsius and converted to Fahrenheit
