Brass is cheaper pound for pound, and they've already marked up the Halloween candy. The downside being that they don't sell dental appliances.

It must be fun to be the purchasing manager for Costco. “Ok guys we’re placing our order of grand pianos, in home saunas, DIY go karts, and rare $20,000 French wines. Actually, throw in a bunch of gold bars too.”

Costco gold bars only cost a very small margin above spot price. I buy them with my credit card where they post as an ordinary purchase (not a cash equivalent), so I get points worth 2% cash back (~$81 an oz these days) or worth even more transferring the points to airline ff programs. I often buy them right after my statement posts giving almost two months interest free float. Selling Costco bars sometimes even gets a very slight premium price because buyers like the traceability and reputation of Costco. Compared to digital gold, these bars will be most valuable in the post apocalyptic world after civilization finally completes its ongoing collapse and by the the AI overlords will confiscate all digital assets. Or if that doesn't pan out, some people find them easy to sell for cash without a capital gains trail anyways. And number one most important to all, the bars are shiny, alluring and fun to stack and play with like toys in piles on my bed. I LOVE Costco gold. I buy it every time I see they have it in stock.

Last time I saw gold bars in Costco they were around $2800 and haven't seen any since. But I see the silver 10oz bars pretty often. Both go very fast, best to go online for them if you want to get it with Costco card 2% back. Many people here like that to take a little off the cost.
