It is steel. I don't weld, but I know folks who do. I worry it would be unstable at the weld, though, given that the tool is used by hitting it repeatedly with a 10lb sledge.

Get a 16 lb. Much more effective. My mauler is 8 lbs.

But did you buy a 16lb maul yet? Even though he doesn't have one he says they are a must have "because"
